The most prevalent is a glue binding that lies completely flat, but twin ring and squishy soft ring bindings are also available. Obviously, the need for these O-shaped stickers were the result of a common problem: three-ring binder paper had a critical flaw.

The small tab at the top of the binder is a lock, so after unlocking the rings, just push down and the rings pop open. This means that Campus loose leaf paper can only be used with compatible Japanese binders and doesn’t fit in three-ring binders, as the rings and holes won’t line up. To close the rings, pinch them shut with your fingers and then flip the plastic stopper down to lock it in place. The notebook comes with 10 sheets of Kokuyo loose leaf paper and can be of course refilled and rearranged with any compatible Kokuyo notebook refills and accessories.

It performs well with a variety of writing instruments: gel, rollerball, and even fountain pens glide across this paper with almost no effort. The paper is thin enough to see the guidelines clearly, yet it performs nearly as well as other Campus papers with only slightly more showthrough. At the end of the day, I can't really recommend the Kokuyo Campus Smart Ring binder system to anyone unless you already know it will fit your needs exactly. The paper is textured enough for graphite to grip the surface, yet smooth enough to use with gel pens.

The notebooks are resistant to bleedthrough, too: they pair nicely with liquid links like those found in rollerball and fountain pens. Once you apply enough force, the teeth will start to open, and then you can simply pry them open with your fingers. Many Kokuyo Campus notebooks and loose leaf papers offer a unique layout known as dotted rule, which is a dot grid that has horizontal lines running through the dots.Since there are 26 rings on this binder, you can imagine it's a bit more difficult to open and close, as well as insert and re-arrange pages.

The dotted rule is not available in all Campus notebooks and loose leaf papers, so be sure to check the product name and description carefully. Each sheet in the memo pad is perforated and tears out cleanly, so disposable notes like grocery lists can be thrown away without damaging the rest of the memo pad. Kokuyo realized that large, thin sheets of paper are difficult to flip through, and increased the paper weight in the larger notebooks to make them easier to use. Unlike regular binders, Kokuyo Campus Slide Binders feature an innovative mechanism to open the rings. This looks like a really cool system for picking and swapping out paper types, but I can't really recommend it after using it for a while.This Twin Ring Perforated Memo Pad combines a dotted 6 mm rule with a perfectly pocketable form factor. As with binders, you can re-arrange pages by opening the rings, yet the slim size takes up no more room than a regular notebook. They're slim and light binder spines with translucent plastic covers that come in a variety of colors to keep your notes safe and secure.
