About this deal

Nobody can understand why Genevieve Strachan would leave her home, late at night, wearing high heels, and end up battered and stabbed. Murdered just minutes away from her own front door, with no clue as to why.

This is the tenth book in the Tom Douglas series and this one is every bit as good as the previous nine, if not better. What appeals about this series, is that Tom Douglas and his team, although essential to the plot, are not the focal point. It is always difficult to review Rachel's books without giving too much away but three threads are running through this book and as the story unfolds, Rachel Abbott has cleverly woven them into a rich tapestry. She really is a master storyteller. This is the ninth in the Tom Douglas series but it can be easily read as a standalone. I really recommend it. I thought I was safe here, but I’m not. I’ve stayed too long. Now Genevieve is dead, and the police are on their way. It’s time for me to go. Jau kiek lūkesčių turėjau šiai knygai ir maniau, kai paimsiu į rankas, perskaitysiu per kelis gerus prisėdimus. Deja, deja...

Summary

It’s a surprise to find out that 10 books down the line, DCI Tom Douglas was never originally meant to stay. Close Your Eyes is the latest in the long-running Tom Douglas thriller series, and whilst I haven't read all of the previous books featuring Tom, I've enjoyed every single one of those that I have read. In Close Your Eyes, the body of the wife of an up and coming businessman is found not far from their home. Her husband has set up a company that is currently developing an app that can accurately predict what will happen in your day. But what is really going on here? When Tom Douglas and his team arrive at the offices, a young woman, Martha Porter, flees, hoping to avoid speaking to the police. But why does she run? Has she got something to do with the murder? And what is the connection between what is happening now and a cult formed twenty-odd years earlier?

Abbott isn't afraid to write about controversial topics - a previous book referenced a pedophile ring; this particular book explores the effects and consequences of cults and it is a hugely intriguing and engaging topic that is sensitively and realistically handled. Once again Rachel Abbott proves why she is one of the best crime fiction writers around and as always it’s a pleasure to sit down with DCI Tom Douglas and catch up on his life and try to solve a crime or two.Na prisipažinsiu, skaičiau tam, kad perskaityt ir daugmaž sužinoti, kuo viskas pasibaigs, bet didelio įspūdžio nepaliko.

Do mrocznych historii kryminalnych pióra Rachel Abbott można powracać z prawdziwą przyjemnością. Do tej pory ta brytyjska autorka jeszcze nie zawiodła i nie inaczej jest w przypadku najnowszej odsłony serii z inspektorem Tomem Douglasem. With Martha’s chapters told in the first person and the rest of the story in the third, I felt as though I were being drawn in to Martha’s world and as events unfolded I had more questions needing answers. I had various scenarios going around in my head and I was desperate to know if I was right. Rachel's novels have now been translated into over 20 languages and have sold over 5 million copies.
