About this deal

A huge hit with many campers, this Vango tent has a high waterproof index that will resist mild to heavier precipitation. The rainfly is all coverage, reaching down to the ground on all sides. One side makes a small vestibule, which even has a ground area as well so that your gear can’t get wet. The Air Zone ventilation system creates comfortable airflow, even with the fly on. Large front PVC windows bring sunlight through during the day. It offers a tall height of 79.9”, allowing people to stand up comfortably. In addition to the 3000mm water column of the fly, the flooring actually has a very high rating of 5000mm. This is important because the floor is a high-traffic area, so you need this added protection. 210T breathable polyester makes up the inner tent, robust 210D Oxford fabric for the floor, and 210T PU coated polyester for the fly. The HD2+ is small enough for a solo traveler, but still big enough to comfortably accommodate couples traveling together. Even if your budget doesn’t allow for something as pricey as a 10,000 mm rated tent, there are still options available that will provide excellent protection from inclement weather. Make sure to read the manufacturer’s specifications when purchasing your tent so you know exactly what level of water resistance it offers and don’t end up disappointed on rainy days.

UV and waterproof coatings can deteriorate over time and get damaged. Oils and even simple washing up liquid (and yes, kids blowing bubbles) could damage the coating. Take for example a polyester tent that has a hydrostatic head of 3000mm. This would mean that it can hold a column of water that is 3000mm tall. Any more and water will start to seep through the material. Hence, the higher the hydrostatic head value of a material, the more water-resistant it is.Unless your camping for extended periods during a monsoon you won’t need your tent fly to have a waterhead rating this high. You can never do ‘too much’ when it comes to ensuring that you stay dry while living in the outdoors. It’s better to be safe than sorry, right? The higher the Hydrostatic Head value, the more water-resistant fabric is, and the more water pressure it can withstand before leaks. What’s a good Hydrostatic Head value for a tent? Weighs only 4.4lb (2kg) and comes with a setup kit of tent poles, stakes, guy-lines, and a storage bag

Normally a ground sheet will start from 3000mm HH rating. Can the waterproofing on a tent deteriorate?

What about the rating for a tent floor?

The living area has a loose fitted bathtub groundsheet with Velcro and toggle attachments for easy removal and cleaning. Raised sides help to reduce draughts and protect from damp. This coating lasts up to 3 times longer than standard coatings, but the one without will also withstand heavy rains. We recommend the Xtreme Coating model for those camping in extreme torrential precipitation. But the comparison lags, because of the US standards, even well-known manufacturers such as MSR often only have a low water column. The MSR Hubba NX or the MSR Elixir 3 only measures 1,200 mm or 1,500 mm for the tent fabric and 3,000 mm for the tent floor. That sounds bad at first. But curious: The Hubba and the Elixir are not cheap tents. At around 385 and 250 dollars, the prices are in the middle price range.

OUR BEST 4-MAN TENT FOR GROUP & FAMILY CAMPING: great for groups camping trips with friends and family, the Trail Hartland Tunnel Tent features 2 x 2-berth bedrooms and a living area. The tent has a new and improved design for 2020 with stronger zippers, tougher pegging points and extra stitching for superior strength, stability and rain protection. Pitched size: L420cm x W210cm x H140/1is plenty for waterproofing purposes, but if you are travelling outside of Europe or the US, we recommend a higher rating. However, When setting up the tent – first the underlay, make sure that there is no water between the underlay and the tent. Again: watch out for sharp stones and the like when setting up your tent. These can perforate your tent floor, allowing water to penetrate. A footprint serves here as additional protection. Speaking of underground The measurement is taken when water starts to penetrate the fabric, and this point is recorded in millimeters (mm). A tent made from 3000mm HH (Hydrostatic Head) can keep you perfectly dry for most camping in the UK. You could buy a tent with 10,000mm HH but still get wet.

Harsher rain and snowy climates will obviously call for tents with higher hydrostatic head values. If you plan to camp where there is snow or frequent heavy showers, we recommend you look for tents with hydrostatic head values of 5000mm up to 10000 mm. This will help ensure that you get the right level of protection for your needs. Is 3000Mm Waterproof Enough for a Tent? It’s important to note that a tent’s level of waterproofing isn’t solely determined by its water column rating. Rather, the density of your new trekking tent is determined by the four criteria mentioned: If you’re planning on visiting a festival, you might not want a super fancy and expensive tent which might be at risk of getting damaged. Festivals are fun, but the party atmosphere and close quarters to other festival-goers increases the risk of accidents.mm water column is the minimum standard for tents, which is considered tight all over the world. However, hiking tents with this water column cannot withstand continuous rain. Because if it rains continuously, more than 1,500 mm of water can “hit” the tent. 2,000 mm water column Whether you’re off on a solo adventure, or having a fun family trip, keeping things watertight is a must. Even though the water rating is typically pretty universal, there are several factors that differ between brands that will affect how impermeable a tent is.
