About this deal

Hen gets more and more reserved and standoff-ish as Junior prepares for his day in the sun, and pretty soon the duo is fighting just without resorting to throwing things at each other. The man is named Terrance, and he comes bearing news that Junior has been longlisted for space exploration, meaning that he’ll be one of the first people to temporarily live in the Installation — a kind of space station set up by the private corporation Terrance works for. The theme of the story offers the opportunity for cross-curricular work in history when studying WW2, especially evacuees. As Friend or Foe is not one of them, I feel I can recommend this as a classic Morpurgo - children centre stage - not in a fantasy, but in a huge real life drama.

Friend or Foe | Book reviews | RGfE - Reading Groups

I think some children could initially be hesitant to read it as the first chapter doesn't immediately draw the reader in however it does become very compelling as the narrative advances. Between lending a hand on the farm and attending the one-classroom village school, they spend their days exploring the fields and woods of the area, and thoroughly enjoying themselves. One of the UK’s best-loved authors and storytellers, Michael was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2003, a post he helped to set up with Ted Hughes in 1999.We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use.

Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo - BBC Teach English KS2: Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo - BBC Teach

Friend or Foe is a gripping World War II story from War Horse author and former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo. This book is gripping because it gives some information about what war was really like for the people who lived. It is a lovely wholesome book that depicts the challenges faced by evacuee children in 1940's Britain.

Friend or Foe – HarperCollins Publishers UK

The only difference here is that Morpurgo used boys instead of horses and was not so dire in the sense that nobody we knew died during the events of the book.A son and grandson of actors, Michael has acting in his blood and enjoys collaborating and performing live adaptations of his books at festivals, concerts and theatres. There was nothing threatening or frightening about them, they were just two exhausted, pale-looking men with sad eyes and kind faces.
