About this deal

I loved (yes, loved) the way in which Jesus became frustrated and annoyed with right wing American evangelicals, rescuing a gay guy from their persecution. The circular discussion about their reasoning was also very perceptive. I would also love to share the bits with you that made me laugh, but I won’t spoil it. Let’s just say that the office scenes in heaven, at the beginning of the book, shouldn’t be glossed over. There’s also a lot of humour in the way in which others accept (or don’t accept) Jesus’ identity and selfless attitude. The reader can actually see this happening if Jesus did return – another tribute to John Niven’s writing. Down on Earth, Jesus is 31 years old, in a band, something of a stoner, and being nice to everyone. And then one day "American Pop Star" starts looking for new contestants and Jesus decides to audition. What better way to tell people to "Be Nice" than on the platform of the biggest show on television? After getting accepted, there's a road trip to LA, the rise of Jesus as a music phenomenon, and the inevitable ending...

You can tell this is a John Niven novel right from the start with its vicious humour. Most of the time though, it hits the spot. As usual , Niven takes no prisoners with his narrative. I liked the semi-cameo appearance of Stephen Stelfox, who is a useful villain to inject into any story. This time he fits right in as a Simon Cowell type character, which is interesting, as having read him in other novels, I wouldn't have made the connection. But it seems to work. Niven contributes regularly to Noble Rot Magazine, an independent publication about wine and food, and the Daily Record. [6]I don’t care about golf. At all. To badly paraphrase the late great George Carlin “imagine…hitting a ball. And then…HITTING IT AGAIN!” That’s pretty much how I feel about it.

Daily Record & Sunday Mail - Scottish News, Sport, Politics and Celeb gossip". dailyrecord . God has tried his best to get his main message, “Be Nice,” adopted by humankind. Nevertheless, something has been lost in the translation several times over the centuries. At first, “Be Nice” was interpreted as the heavy-handed and clumsy ten commandments of the Old Testament. Then it was misread once again as a message of rebellion and led to the crucifixion of Jesus. There is underneath it all a very human story about the whole point being Be Nice; nice involving justice, equality and fairness for all; oh, and lots of weed to smoke. Gary Irvine is pretty happy in Ardgirvan, a small town on Scotland's west coast. Only two things would improve his life - children and a lower golf handicap. Both are unlikely. The former because Gary's wife Pauline is intent on leaving him as soon as she's snared Findlay Masterson, the self-made carpet millionaire she's set her sights on. And the latter because, frankly, Gary is an appalling golfer.
