About this deal

The softest mechanical pencil lead grade is 4B because of the thin diameter of mechanical pencil lead compared to wooden pencil lead.

If used with a light hand, H-grade pencil strokes will erase very easily. However, their hardness can easily cause indentations in your paper. This can not only make them difficult to erase but also leaves behind an indentation in your paper even if you are able to remove all the graphite. This may not be all bad if you want to have a more permanent outline that you can shade over, but be certain about those outlines before you press down. And remember, pressing down will dent and possibly even tear the paper. At the end of the day, every new art tool you use will take some patience and practice to get used to. Once you get familiar with your drawing pencils, you may find that certain pencils work best for you for certain reasons. That’s great! Embrace that! The number found in front of the letter reveals just how soft or hard the pencil is. In other words, a "4H" pencil is harder than a "2H" pencilwhile a "4B" pencil is softer than a "2B" pencil. This Faber-Castell set includes 12 pencils ranging from 5H to 5B, which gives you a great range to work with. It leaves out my beloved 6B, but it’s a great set to start with. As an artist, creating the illusion of three-dimensional depth, while drawing on a two-dimensional surface, requires practice and skill. It also requires a full range of values. Take a moment to look around the room around you. What do you see? You see areas that are in shadows, but you don’t just see a universal level of darkness, do you? Creating curved horizontal lines approximately a centimetre in length with a 3B pencil, work from the right hand edge across. Ensure that you’re working from top to bottom with the pencil as the top corner is further from the light.

This "clumping" can occur in all dimensions, creating either "waves" of hair or small separate clumps. Take a break and then look at your drawing once again from a distance. Turn it upside down, see it in a mirror, and maybe take a photo to get a different perspective. I have 10+ years of experience in using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, both for graphic design and for creating unique works of art as well. I hold a degree in graphic design, but nowadays I work as a freelance illustrator and a tutorial author. I specialize in creating realistic art, especially of animals, and I'm good at designing imaginary creatures in a realistic way. I'm a big fan of dragons and feline creatures! Tilt your pencil and fill the fur sketch shape with gray. Don't press too hard to achieve a uniform effect. You can simulate the flow of the fur drawing with your strokes, but it's not necessary. Step 3To compensate for the lead not being very strong, the lead diameter of the first mechanical pencils was around 0.9 mm. Now the difficult part—we need to draw the shadows between clumps to make fur pop. There are certain "signs" you can use as a base, but you need to try it yourself to understand how to draw a fur clump. Practice on the side for a moment if you're not sure how to do it. On the other hand, the more clay in the pencil, the harder the lead will be and produce lighter marks.
