About this deal

Even if you were to drop to smaller 4 1/2 inch tyres, you would have to check the distance between the rack mounts on the frame as this can be a limiting factor when fitting racks to fat bikes. Obviously that really depends on various factors such as your budget, experience, how you’ll use it or even how often. Problem is a bodged rack just isn't very strong, and so I had to swap it after a while, for a disk specific rack like this Tortec Transalp Rack. This rack fit all of the common wheel sizes meaning that on a 26" mtb there will be a fair bit of head room between the rear tire and the base of the rack. With a 5 year manufacturers warranty you should feel sound in the knowledge that this rack is built to last.

Can only comment on fitting and light use so far, but it seems very well put together and is rock solid on the bike.

The black finish on the rack is not the usual smooth powder coating, there's a texture to it that is rather like weathered iron - it looks and feels classy. You might also want to get a bike cover if your bike will be open to the elements whilst at work, school or elsewhere. Service provided by the retailer is really helpful for other users to share, as we can learn to avoid those that provide bad service. Pannier racks have two main mounting methods, there is the traditional method - where pannier racks are bolted onto eyelets on the bike (found on most touring bikes) and non traditional pannier racks which are mounted by clamps onto components and parts such as seat posts. With disc brake compatibility and durable design, it offers ultimate versatility and convenience for your cycling adventures.

The lower mounting point on this rack can be mounted to a frame that has mounts that are up to 170mm wide. That said, as mentioned, at My Bike Reviews we only recommend a retailer if we have personally used them on several occasions and can vouch for their level of service.at least not very well (read my clarks CMD-8 review to see how I bodged a standard rack to fit around the disk brake). Pretty easy, but you will need bolt holes in frame (braise ons) for the upper part of the rack to fit. This means the cost is deducted from your salary as a non-cash benefit, so you save on tax and national insurance. D-locks are by far the most recommended locks for this purpose, as they are incredibly difficult to break and will put off would-be thieves. Designed by riders for riders, Tortec products really are up to the job and can be relied upon to cope with heavy loads and long epic adventures.
