About this deal

On the surface, they don’t actually look that different from one another, but popcorn does differ greatly from other varieties of corn. Mulching with straw, shredded leaves or grass clippings is a great way to keep weeds down, and valuable moisture in the ground.

Turn the cobs daily to ensure they dry evenly and there is no moisture trapped underneath the cobs which could create mould. Once the seedlings are at least 8cm (3in) tall, they can be moved outside, as long as there is no longer any risk of frost. With baby corn varieties, on the other hand, sow seeds 20cm (8in) apart in rows not grids, as pollination is not required. That way, each plant is surrounded by several near neighbours, so the chances of successful pollination, resulting in a cob packed with kernels, is much greater, whichever direction the wind is blowing. Standard varieties generally lose their sweetness more quickly than the newer ‘supersweet’ varieties.

My daughter was in night nappies when she started going to school and I WON'T apologise for it - no one. This isn't the first time Golden Gaytime has been given a flavour twist with a Coco Pops, Birthday cake and Crunchy Nut variety also available now. I asked my friends to clean my house instead of throwing me a baby shower - every mother-to-be should have a nesting party! For example, corn comes in varieties like Indian corn, sweet corn, baby corn, striped maize, amylomaize, flour corn, dent corn, and flint corn. There are lots to choose from, including many ‘supersweet’ and ‘tendersweet’ varieties that have been bred for greater sweetness.Another physical difference between the two types of corn is not only the texture, edibility, and taste of the kernels but the shape of the kernels as well. Sweetcorn is usually grown from seed and there is a vast array of varieties, with different ripening times, levels of sweetness and flavour, cob sizes and colours. The whole cob or just the middle used to be ground and mixed with whatever type of flour that was at hand (usually wheat or corn flour). We pop quality corn kernels to perfection in the goodness of high oleic sunflower or canola oil and just the right amount of raw sugar.
