The Anker may have a smaller sound field and lower max volume, but tonally it doesn’t sound too far off. Even though I'm a freelancer now, PCMag has been my home for well over a decade, and audio gear reviews are still my primary focus.

On orchestral tracks, such as the opening scene from John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, the Mini 3 produces a bright, clear sound with some added depth in the lows—again, it's something you feel more so than hear because of the passive radiator that sends vibrations through surfaces. Increase the volume on the connected device and see if the volume on the docking station remains stable. Reset the SoundCore Mini by holding down the power button for 5 seconds until the LED indicator flashes red and blue. But since a new baby and the pandemic hasn’t allowed for much travel, I’ve just settled into my new place looking for something to liven up the atmosphere during work hours. This came in clutch when the battery died and I needed some entertainment to get me through the day.

The Mini 3's nine-band EQ is far more effective for adjusting higher frequencies than the lower ones that the speaker can barely muster, which isn’t surprising. Anker’s reputation for overpowering bass has always preceded it, but I was shocked to hear how well balanced the Soundcore Mini sounded.
