About this deal

If you don’t want to submerge your arm up to your shoulder, a deeper aquarium needs a longer vacuum tube. A good water changer will streamline the water exchange process and will help you clean the gravel at the bottom of the tank too.

I decided to use 1/2″ pipe as it seems this will be plenty of flow for our little aquarium and should work fine even on a larger tank. Consisting of little more than a hose and hollow tube, this is the most popular type of gravel vacuum. But for several tanks or one or more larger tanks the Python or something like it is almost required as hauling buckets makes it too much of a chore. If you have never operated an aquarium water changer before, read over our how to use an aquarium water changer guide. The standard-sized opening on a gravel vacuum is 2 inches (5 cm) and is suitable for aquariums 20 gallons and over. The 15’ section between the pump and the aquarium is the only section that needs to be primed for it to work! The tube also comes with a gravel guard to make sure that no gravel gets trapped inside of the tube.

HOWEVER, what does concern me is, when i refill, i’d be filling normal tap water at a warm temperature to match my aquarium water best i can,, but how do i deal with adding the dechlorinator upon filling? From plastic fittings that did not hold up to regular use to hosing that gives off a strong plastic smell and easily kinks. It also comes complete with a 10 inch gravel tube so you can easily change the water and clean the gravel without disturbing your fish or having to remove the gravel from the aquarium. We take all the steps necessary to ensure the product you receive is of the highest quality FDA approved materials. While the ridged hose of the Tera Pump might allow it to bend without kinking, it has a serious drawback. Using the Python is as simple as connecting all the pieces, setting the valve to ‘siphon’ mode, and then drawing up water through the gravel tube. For now, I am still using my latest replacement Aqueon faucet pump, but I’m working on fabricating a faucet pump from metal parts that I hope will last much longer. Just be aware that you might need to purchase an additional faucet adapter or two before you can use your new water changer.

Perhaps you should mention that these warerchangers most likely are OK for just draining your tank, but to use as a gravel cleaner you need a bit more power. I’ll make sure it’s a mixer tap plus get an outside tap drilled through the wall as high as possible for python draining purposes into a water butt. A 5-inch (13-cm) gravel vacuum is too inefficient for a large aquarium, cleaning your gravel would take all day.Unfortunately i have forgotten what i learned in the physics classes in school so turned out to be a waste of money. With Python water changers stretching up to 100 feet in length, coiling the hose up once you are finished with it can be a messy job. The first time I read about a Python water changer, I knew it was what I wanted to use for my new aquarium’s maintenance. It also comes with the faucet pump so you can easily create the vacuum that will suck the water out by itself.
