So yes, take some time to do research before you choose a study Bible. But even more importantly, obey the word of God. My handwriting is a bit larger than some other people and i find that even with these journal bibles which have wider margins there just really isn't enough space for me to put down the sort of notes that I want. So i've started using the same system that Matthew Everhard uses which is based on Jonathan Edwards miscellanies. Because you want the translation to be as close to the original as possible, while still being readable. God chose specific words to include and exclude in scripture, and our job as readers is not to change those words, but wrestle with their meaning. There are some parts of my analog system that I'm looking to change, for example the NET journal bible. I've come to the conclusion that this just isn't really the right version for me. while I love the leather cover and the style of paper is quite nice, there are a couple of aspects I don't really like.

Overall, this is a big simplification of the two methods of translation, but I think you get the point. Translation – Being that this Bible uses the Kings James Version translation you will find some words you may be unfamiliar with if this is your first time reading this version. This makes this journaling Bible an edition that is great for those who have studied the Bible before. This translation makes this one of the best Bibles for journaling and word study. If you are a Bible scholar you will definitely want to get this one on your bookshelf.

Size – Each book is sized 5.75 inches by 8 inches. The books are thin and extremely portable so they can be taken pretty much everywhere without inconvenience.

ESV Single-Column Journaling Bible : This Bible features 2” ruled margins for writing observations, reflections, prayers, praises, notes, and journal entries.

With digital, I can do a simple search in the search bar, find the note and maybe find something extra too. I can have links between my other notes and when I go through my notes later it can help turn that collection of ideas into something to share later.

A mixture of a Bible with the binding of a high-quality notebook. This journaling Bible is made to go where you go, giving you a place to reflect, write, and explore what God’s word has to say when you look closely and thoughtfully. There are rare occasions when a literal translation will make zero sense to a modern English reader, and in that case, the translation attempts to be as close to the original as possible while still making sense to the reader. Drafts allows me to export the note that O create in plain text and that's all that i really need to do. There are many other applications that also support text files but I like drafts because it gives me access to other actions to manipulate text files. A couple of caveats before we begin. This video is not going to look at why i write in my Bible i'll look at that in a different video and it's also not going to look at exactly what I write in my bible again that's going to be in another later video instead this is the tools and the kind of whole big system that I've developed of how I take notes and then how I have them in my system so I can remember them find them later. Now let’s dive into the nitty gritty of choosing a good study Bible for you. In the past I've used a note-taking application called Notion. While I still like notion I'm now using a system a tool called Obsidian because Bibles that have the designs printed in the margins are great for beginners or those who don’t feel they have the artistic talent to make their own. (Though I will always encourage you, that anyone has the talent to do their own- see THIS POST HERE for more on that.) The pre-illustrated Bibles also have a lot of blank margins as well if you are on the fence.
