The Storm 450 i is Dual-Fuel compatible, allowing you to power the light with either the rechargeable BD 1500 Li-ion battery or three standard AAA batteries. I frequently commute on a bike at night and attach this lamp to my bike helmet (Giro Surface) using the elastic headband, but an adhesive mount would be much more secure. I'm not sold on the ability to dim the beam since I'm often unsure what level of output I've set it to and have to keep going back to check: for me, three discrete modes (low, mid and high) would be plenty, and clearer than an undifferentiated scale.

Additionally they have a blinking mode that is activated when the on/off switch is quickly double tapped when the single power white LEDs are already on.

It came with Duracells and they perform well, though I do notice a marked reduction in full output after a couple hours of use. With its smaller housing and lower capacity battery I suspect the Spot will if anything fare a bit less well in the cold than the Storm, but after a couple of hours in the home freezer it still seemed fine. Spot mode is a lot more focused, throwing a narrow beam a long way but at the expense of closer range peripheral vision. Having had the previous Storm I was a little weary of how this would perform as the last one killed off batteries like crazy, and this was because of a fault with the unit. I purchased one of these headlamps brand new about a year and a half ago and received a second one as part of a prize package about two months later. These red LEDs provide a diffuse light and do not have an adjustable light output; however, they do have a blinking mode that can be activated in the same manner as the blinking mode for the single power white LEDs.
