It didn’t take long to get this tent up and sitting pretty on top of the crisp white snow. There are only 3 colour coded poles in total, which means the outer is pitched rather fast and then you can get to turn your attention to the inner (more about the inner shortly). Fly sheet, inner tent and groundsheet fully fire retardant - tested to the European EN 5912 safety standard. Mrs TentLife was suffering with her cold knees (it was -2), she had her tiny water bottle so I dutifully filled it up with hot snow so we could get cosy for the evening.
The downside to buying online is that you can’t actually get hold of the product to try it out first.

We’re really pleased to have scored Berghaus Cairngorm 3 Tent so highly, givimg it 9.3 out of 10, making it well above the average for all 3 – 4 Person Tents. N.B. It seems difficult to find the green colourway online. I believe the next model year has been released in a less-than-stealthy red, with the same feature list as the green one here. There are however some methods that you can use to determine a product’s quality without needing to physically have it. There’s so much information available online when we’re shopping now, that it’s easy to find lots of detail about products like Berghaus Cairngorm 3 Tent. This is of course really helpful, but there’s almost too much information available, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re looking for.Personally, there was 2 notable features that I thought brilliant. The sheer amount of useable space inside; admittedly using a 3-man tent for 2 people will give you that and the usability of the dual-door porch. Additionally, the ability to roll up both doors out of the way gives a real airy feel and allows for pretty selective control on which door to have in/out of the wind. The head height on this tent is good, although there isn’t anywhere at the inner door end to hang a light (Berghaus sort this out), but there is a lantern attachment at the foot/narrow end.
We can’t comment as to how it copes in the wind as in this occasion there wasn’t any, not even a breeze. That didn’t stop me putting the guy ropes out just in case any turned up overnight.When buying 3 – 4 Person Tents, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying.
