A shoe design that looks very much like a trainer, we recently put the model through its paces. First things first the Adapt Foam, a combination of EVA cushioning and an impact resistant polymer, creates a firm feeling shoe whilst still being comfortable. This shoe does not fall into the trap of being too soft. PUMA have always been a front runner when pushing the boundaries to design trendy yet functional golf shoes and the GS-Fast, an update on their much talked about RS-G Golf Shoes, certainly continues that trend. These are a statement shoe for those players wanting to complete a streetwear look on the course. Admittedly these shoes will not be everyone's cup of tea and we did get several comments about them from playing partners and other members of the golf course when we first tested them out. Articulating PWRCAGE– PUMA’s strategic use of vowels and capitalization is sometimes baffling but the point is that the PWRCAGE structure provides a more secure fit. To a degree, it mimics what you get with BOA and Disc systems. PUMA Golf calls the IGNITE Articulate the most versatile performance shoe it has ever made. I can’t swear to the accuracy of that assertion but, speaking as a guy who has tried just about every golf shoe PUMA has made in the last decade, I think there is something to it.

I haven’t decided if I like it more than the Titan Tour (I just re-spiked those, too) but it’s absolutely my favorite PUMA shoe since the Titan Tour. The first is, as I mentioned, the wide version isn’t as wide as some other wide shoes. My feet are only kinda fat, so I’m good, but the width could be problematic for guys with really fat feet. I’m looking at you, Dave Wolfe. Engineered Articulation– PUMA-speak for grooves all over the shoe—I’m talking outsole, midsole and upper—that allow it to move with you while still providing support.

The other major change for this year’s model is the added spike. For those wondering, these are replaceable tornado spikes so you can get a few extra miles out of them if you so choose. While I have never had a problem with the older seven spike models, the new eight spike system certainly felt stable and well connected to the ground during even the most aggressive swings. This also translated into swings in wet conditions. Whether it was morning dew or after some rainfall, I never felt like I would slip or lose my footing. I don’t have what you might call “quiet feet” in the golf swing so a shoe that wants to work with my feet instead of against them is ideal. Upon first glance, the 2022 Puma IGNITE Articulate Disc golf shoe does not stray too far from the looks that have been so popular in previous iterations. The adjustable disc rids users of laces while the associated cord wraps the top of the shoe with two plastic tabs. The tongue does not separate from the foot opening as seen in previous IGNITE versions. This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on. The intended slip-on construction of these shoes was evident to see and I would applaud Puma for implementing this feature. The articulation geometry on the upper, midsole and outsole contributed to the overall comfort factor of these Puma golf shoes. The Ignite PU foam is included to provide a high-energy return and long-lasting cushioning. Time will tell if the Ignite foam cushioning will serve me for a number of years, but if my experience with the shoe so far is anything to go by, I have full confidence in this product.When trying a pair on for the first time, listen for the 'whoosh' sound when you slide your feet in - that's the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to confirm it is the correct size, but do a walking test to be sure. They shouldn't pinch anywhere, nor should your feet be moving around inside.
