About this deal

But dark shadows are gathering once more, as the financial markets start to shake. And everything that felt so certain is thrown once again into doubt.

Fall in love with beloved bestselling author Santa Montefiore's epic tale of romance, secrets, family and friendship. I have a tendresse for sweeping and epic romantic sagas set around huge houses and aristocratic families and Santa Montefiore hits the spot for me like few other writers...

Table of Contents

I came into The Daughters of Castle Deverill, the second book in a series written by established British author Santa Montefiore, having just read its predecessor, Songs of Love and War. Although it is not essential to have read the first book, Songs of Love and War, to enjoy The Daughters of Castle Deverill, I believe it enhanced my reading experience. It gave me a good handle on the characters and the scene that had been set. However, Montefiore does devote time in the Daughters of Castle Deverill in keeping her readers up to speed on her characters and their lives, which enables the book to also be read as a standalone novel. If you are a fan of family saga type books you will love this series. It's a touch of Downton Abbey along with rural hard living families spanning a time period of 1925 to 1938 (book 2). The second novel in the beloved Deverill Chronicles, perfect for everyone who loves Jojo Moyes, Rosamund Pilcher and Victoria Hislop.

I just loved this series, but could not continue as my library was closed do to COVID 19. I found that I could borrow an audio copy of this wonderful book from Overdrive. I have never read a audiobook and had no desire to do so. We begin this sequel in 1939 with Martha Wallace who is coming from America to find her birth mother. Martha was adopted as an infant and went to America with her happy parents. What secrets she will discover.

Sigh. I'm actually rather bummed that my journey with the Deverills is over. Even though the book did what I feared and wrapped some things up easier and neater than I would like, some of the ending parts were satisfying and I think I'm going to have a bit of a book hangover from this trilogy. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. I already miss the beautifully descriptive, emotion-evoking writing and the vivid pictures of Ireland and London that Montefiore provides throughout the book.

Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree is the unforgettable, evocative, and moving tale of forgiveness and love. It follows the lives of the Solanas family living in the tumultuous years of political turmoil in Argentina. Sofia Solanas is the lead character, a proud, resourceful, wilful, spoilt daughter of Argentine nobility. She lives on an expansive ranch and has been brought up under the spiritual practices of the gauchos, and the time-honored traditions of her highborn parents. Everybody seems to love Sofia except for Anna, her Irish mother who visits her sense of inadequacy and alienation on her daughter. When Sofia gets into a steamy love affair that her mother believes would disgrace the family if it ever came out, she banishes Sofia to Europe. By sending her away, she inadvertently exiles the daughter not only from her soul mate for over a decade but also from her family.

Synopsis
