This exceptional product is equipped with almost every imaginable tool, organized and optimized for compact function That’s quite a lot of challenges for a single, hand-held tool, but the Leatherman Wingman impressed, and from a total of eight multi-tools tested, it was declared the winner. We also tried another product from Leatherman, the Wave– it is more expensive than the Wingman, but has more tools and received a very respectable four-star rating.Other multi-tools tested included the Am-Tech 12-in-1 Axe Head Multi-Function Tool, the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit III, the Cobb Multi Tool,the Gerber Steadyand another from Gerber called the Crucial. At this price point, however, there are some compromises. The lone blade features a hybrid straight and serrated edge made of mid-grade steel, which will require regular sharpening depending on your use. The straight portion is easily reconditioned, but sharpening serrations requires special techniques. Further, that blade is significantly shorter than it needs to be. There is almost a half inch of extra space in the handle that Leatherman conspicuously does not utilize. Overall, you get far more than you pay for with the Leatherman Wingman, including some truly unique features not seen in even high-end models. If you're willing to spend a little more, the Leatherman Skeletool CX offers better ergonomics but fewer functions. If you use a multi-tool for basic tasks but are prone to losing it, the Wingman won't hurt quite as much to replace. One final thing to touch upon that many customers appear to find as the best feature is the comfort level that the handles provide.

We established a list of tasks that every multi-tool on test had to complete.
