About this deal

Shutter speed can be set to take exposures lasting 1/4,000th of a second to 30 seconds, or even longer with bulb mode. ISO extends from 100-25,600, but we managed great results with 1,600-3,200.

Attach Your Camera to a Telescope - AstroBackyard

There's no image stabilization, which we wouldn't expect in a fast prime anyway, but when we tested the lens we did find that there is an annoying 'clonking' sound from what we think is the AF actuator when the lens is removed from the camera and its AF system is not being powered. How we test lenses Image quality is excellent, with minimal aberrations. Sharpness is excellent across most of the frame, even at the widest aperture. Vignetting isn’t too bad at f/2.4, but coma and astigmatism are pronounced, giving an irregular shape to stars. Both factors are improved by narrowing the aperture by an f/stop though. In a nutshell, smartphones are not dedicated astrophotography products and don’t offer the exposure control of a DSLR camera. Typically, any device used for night-sky imaging will need to perform long exposures, have remote shutter capability and ISO control (to alter sensitivity to light). As you might expect, Nikon went all guns blazing with the design of this lens to try and sway photographers to the Z mount. As such, the build, handling and image quality of this lens are all absolutely top-tier. Copiously weather-sealed, with scintillating sharpness, this is a lens for those who demand the best (and it comes with the kind of price tag you might expect).

When you are ready to take pictures with your camera attached to the telescope, it is useful to use a remote shutter release cable. This accessory allows you to capture images without touching the camera and even set a sequence of images to fire off on their own. ( this is the one I use). There are adaptors available that fit these ‘astro cams’ to DSLR camera lenses, which allows you to use them for wide-field deep-sky imaging. Deep sky astrophotography requires that you take long exposure images of the night sky. To accomplish this, you will need to use a computerized equatorial mount that matches the apparent rotation of the night sky.

telescope as a super telephoto lens? Practicality of using a telescope as a super telephoto lens?

It’s also possible to modify an off-the-shelf webcam for planetary imaging, so that it fits into the eyepiece holder of your telescope (see below for more details). Most telescopes have an opening for 2″ eyepieces (or T-Ring adapters) and a 1.25″ adapter for smaller eyepieces or 1.25″ barrels.DSLRs with ‘Live View’ or video capability can be used for planetary imaging, although they’re less efficient at cutting through atmospheric distortion than a planetary camera. To guarantee you're getting honest, up-to-date recommendations on the best cameras to buy here at Space.com we make sure to put every camera through a rigorous review to fully test each product. Each camera is reviewed based on many aspects, from its construction and design, to how well it functions as an optical instrument and its performance in the field. The excellent RGB sensitivity is great for Solar System targets, but also brighter deep-sky objects: exposure range runs from 32 microseconds to 1,000 seconds. Full-frame cameras are generally best for astrophotography because they suffer less from high ISO image noise and they can capture a wider dynamic range. However, there are many APS-C models that perform excellently for astrophotography, as can be seen in this guide. What's the difference between crop sensor and full-frame? The Fujifilm X-T5 is the younger model of the (still excellent) Fujifilm X-T4, and despite the addition of several upgrades, the price point is similar.
