About this deal

For those of you who are not sewers don't worry too much about leaving a straight raw edge. The hemming tape will do a good job of sealing the fabric edges and minimizing fraying in most fabrics. Preparation for Hemming Tape - Finish the Edges Step Two - Cutting the Hemming Tape Make sure your fabric or garment has been pre-washed and is ready to be hemmed. A fabric softener should not be used on the first application as it will impair the bonding solution, causing the tape to attach less strongly. This super weight hem tape is ideal for use on heavier fabrics such as corduroy, wool, suede, denim, heavy cotton, and others. Cut the hemming tape to the length of the fabric for the requirement of hemmed. First, measure the part of the hem that has to be fixed and cut the tape correctly if it’s a hem repair. Then, press the hem and put the tape between the hem and the garment’s wrong side. The hem should be pressed up 1/8 inch (3mm) more than the width of the tape.

You can also use this tape to prevent your adjustable straps from loosening. It fits most camisole straps and bras. It also securely holds scarves, cardigans, collars, and more in place. The best thing about the tape is that it is both fabric and skin-friendly. If you leave your hem tape exposed to the iron, it will melt and become difficult, if not impossible, to remove. SHORTENING - If you are using hemming tape to shorten a pair of jeans, pants, or a skirt, measure your required length and then add at least 1 ¼ inch (3cm) for seam allowance on the hem. Most hemming tapes are 1 inch (2.5cm). For jeans, don't forget to wash them first in case they shrink. Cut Before Adding Hemming Tape With the iron, press down firmly. Hold for a few seconds to allow the tape to heat, then release and remove the iron.On your test sample let the fabric cool and see if the hemming tape has set. If the hem peels away the iron was not hot enough. This hem tape requires activation with a steam iron. It is ideal for use with either white or light-colored fabrics. You can use it for both repairing and creating hems. Materials that are highly elastic, waterproof, have a raised fabric, or have a rough surface (or can’t be pressed) will not work with hemming tape.

Pay attention to the pressing instructions; press and hem little sections if a short area has to be hemmed. If your outfit is delicate or made of synthetic materials, use a cotton pressing cloth between it and the fabric while ironing. The hem should be pressed up by the width of the tape and ⅛ inch (3mm) extra. My tape was 1 inch (2.5cm) so I pressed the hem up 1 ⅛ inch (2.8cm). You don't want any of the tape to come above the hem as it will ruin your iron. Press the hem area and insert the tape between the hem and the wrong side of the garment. The hemming tape is the same on both sides.
