About this deal

Overall, listening to Door One reminds of how I felt when I listened to by first BBT opus - The Underfall Yard. With the decks cleared by the opener, the heavy piano notes of “Watch It Burn” start this uptempo track, which is a reflection on the end of a relationship – and the lyrics are confessional and pretty stark stuff. Especially because – as Longdon looks back on doors opened, paths chosen, and where those choices have led – this personal, emotional and frequently sublime record simply vibrates with life, and living.

However, by the Spring of last year, he was seeking to forge a solo career in parallel with continuing to be a leading force within Big Big Train. Watch It Burn’s low piano line, new wave guitar riff and great Stacey/Vantsis groove power along as Longdon revisits a toxic relationship with an alcohol-dependent ex-lover.

David had also finally, after many years, begun to gain both widespread acclaim and respect, furthermore he had found satisfaction in his life with partner Sarah Ewing. David will certainly be missed but his legacy lives on in his recorded works and this album will certainly be a part of that legacy that he leaves us. Sure, initially it does sound very much like BBT in their pomp, but on closer inspection the songs feel looser, more dynamic and rockier.

David released his first solo album, Wild River, back in 2004 but on joining Big Big Train, the band became his primary focus. Gary Bromham: “ Having worked with David on and off for over 35 years, we talked extensively about the influences for the album. David Longdon – Vocals, Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Mandolin, Keyboard Programming, Piano, Stylophone, Percussion.Album bello, ispirato, complesso ma accessibile, la cui qualità riprodotta sul vinile (nero, naturalmente) è ineccepibile e di gran resa sonora.
