It delivers clear guidance on a lot of the questions that friends and I had on furnishing our first post b-school apartments. Things like, how big should the rug be relative to the table? To the room? How many inches of space should there be between the dining room table and the wall for people to move around? Etc. I remember googling those types of things a lot and it would have been nice to have them in a book. Now, having done it for more than 15 years I don’t think anyone doubts me when I say that I love what I do, or, that you can make a living of your passion.

It has a whole chapter about curtains and it’s so boring it made me feel like I was torturing myself. The move from her character-filled apartment to a sterile white box new build gave her the inspiration to put together this complete interiors bible to help novices to create a cosy, attractive and harmonious home that doesn’t rely on architectural features.

Professional designers and architects, of course, have their practical manuals that contain guidelines and ergonomic measures as to how a house should be constructed, but I’ve never found anything aimed at individuals. What was needed is a book we can hold in our hands as we set about turning houses into homes, a book that will help us come up with our own solutions instead of simply encouraging us to follow other people’s. Only gave it 2 stars because it’s an attractive book that’ll look nice on my shelf, lol. Otherwise, utter tripe. Completely obvious, banal content and truly patronising. Author tries to find the words to explain gut instinct, and you just can’t prescribe or teach that. Really struggled through! However, after reading the book, I'm not sure I came away with any valuable tips I could apply. They were either simple common sense or contradictory. Whether it’s your home, wardrobe or free time, let me bring some Nordic inspiration to your everyday.
