About this deal

To charge to its full capacity can take up to three hours, but once it is charged, the camera is able to print up to 100 images from a single charge. Of course, if you’re using it to take pictures as well, the power will run out sooner. Also if you're hoping to use the Mini Evo as your main digital camera, you'll be sorely disappointed. While the 5 megapixel camera provides more than enough detail for Instax Mini prints, it doesn't compare well with virtually any smartphone from the last few years, flagship or otherwise. That said, in activating the camera for the first time via the commendably tactile on/off lever on the faceplate, we’re met with an almost overwhelming array of on-screen options, which meant that it took us a couple of minutes to work out how we could cut through all that and simply capture and output a photo. It should, after all, be as simple as pointing and shooting, as on competing purely analogue models from Fuji and others.

Overall, the Mini Evo has plenty to offer, and while I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an Instax Square format model in the future, the Evo has jumped straight to the top of my list of favourite instant cameras. On the bottom of the Instax Mini Evo is a hidden slot for inserting a microSD memory card. The Mini Evo comes with an inbuilt memory which can store approximately 45 images, while up to 850 images can be stored per 1GB of memory on a Micro SD card - so it’s well worth investing in one of those unless you want to frequently delete your images.Printing resolution: 25 dots / mm × 12.5 dots / mm (635 x 318 dpi, 40 x 80 μm dot pitch), 12.5 dots / mm when printed from smartphone app (318 dpi, 80 μm dot pitch) The front of the camera is rather sparse, with a power switch, shutter button and small selfie mirror surrounding the lens barrel, which can be twisted to cycle between lens modes. There’s also a small mirror which you can use to help you accurately line up selfies, an AF assist lamp and the flash unit, which can be switched on or off from the menu. Printing is incredibly fast on the Evo, and the images it produces have that classic vintage feel to them. You have the choice to either print them in natural mode, or rich mode which increases the warm tones. The photos are about the size of a credit card, making them perfect for slipping inside of a wallet. The Instax Mini Evo app can be used for remote shooting (with live view), editing photos before printing, and transferring photos from the camera to your phone. Raymond Wong / Input

The Instax Evo comes fitted with a lithium ion battery, which allegedly lasts for around 100 snaps. I had no trouble with the camera’s longevity. Even if you forget to turn it off, the device will power down automatically. When you do come to charge it, it takes around two and half hours. Features and image quality You can also use your smartphone as a remote control and wirelessly release the camera's shutter from the INSTAX mini EVO app, which is available for iOS and Android phone. It uses Fujifilm Instax Mini film. You can shop all of our Instax films here > Can all photos I have taken be transferred to the app? Looking to upgrade your equipment? The overall layout of the app is incredibly simple to use, but the text could be a little larger for accessibility reasons, and there seems to be a lot of wasted space. Instax film is incredibly simple to use - all you need to do is line up the small yellow line on the Instax film with the same yellow line on the camera and close the door when it’s in place. Be careful not to accidentally open the film door once you start using the film though, as you’ll risk exposing and ruining the film.
