About this deal

The malevolent spirit was said to have attached itself to a row of council houses and tormented families for years. The ghosts of Wythenshawe Hall are as plentiful as they are disturbing, and a frequent sight is the spirit of Mary Webb, who was a servant at the hall during the time of the Cromwell invasion. Stop along the route include Saddleworth Museum & Art Gallery and Brownhill Countryside Centre, and the walk is said to require moderate fitness levels – and of course, nerves of steel. Find out more and get access here. The library also houses another phantom clergyman, who has been seen searching the shelves for a book. This anxious spirit is thought to be one of the Carmelites who died unexpectedly and his soul is forever tied to his quest for knowledge. The hall was the home of the Barton family for 200 years from 1485. A reputed psychic once reported seeing a strange-looking man and woman in the great hall dressed in the 15th century clothing and the man is believed to have been the ghost of John Barton who died in the Battle of St Albans in the War of the Roses.

Before this, the company had previously been given until 1 April 2023 to continue running the routefrom London to Glasgow, but had been told that it needed to “drastically improve” its services if it was to stand any chance of having the contract extended further beyond that date, due to its chaotic past since taking over from Virgin in December 2019. The incidents reportedly baffled maintenance workers who could not determine the cause of the issues. When her brother still hadn’t come upstairs 20 minutes later, she thought he may have been making food. Halloween tends to split the wheat from the chaff in terms of those who enjoy the lighter side (think a cosy evening watching Halloweentown, bopping along to the Monster Mash with a pumpkin spice latte in hand), and those who live for a proper scare. The latter group will likely be searching for, if not already booked on to, a good few ghost tours, whether it be scouring the streets of Manchester, or exploring particularly renowned buildings; so here’s our guide to ghost tours in Manchester for the horror film-watching, haunted house-visiting Mancs in the room – not the faint hearted. 1. Ordsall Hall Ghost Hunt Credit: Ordsall HallThe 16 th Century Wythenshawe Hall has a near overwhelming history, even for a building that is 500 years old. It is said that lights turn on and off randomly, glasses get smashed, people get pushed around and the usually warm lower floor can have sudden and extreme drops in temperature which has everyone bemused. In between, the downstairs was occupied by Brannigan’s Nightclub. To be completely honest, I don’t know what is more terrifying- poltergeist activity or the idea of spending a considerable amount of time in the vomit coloured interior of Brannigan’s circa 2003.

One of the city’s best boozers, that’s also haunted by a pretty active spirit that “customers have seen pint glasses levitate off the bar and fall into the glass-wash.” There’s even the odd story of the tax return paperwork getting filled in with BLOOD every year before April 1st. Many thanks to the HH staff at this venue for making it a memorable experience for my wife and I. Their input and enthusiasm helped us both to understand and appreciate the activity that we witnessed at the Hall. The table moving activity in the Star Chamber was fascinating and left my wife and myself stunned. In Ancient Egypt they believed that if the mummy is destroyed then the statuette can act as an alternative vessel for the spirit. Maybe that is what is causing the movement.” The most common account is of a ghostly male figure, dressed as an airman, wandering around the gates before disappearing. One letter, written in 1971 by a former airport worker, reveals how he had encountered an ‘old man’ whom he believed was the ghost of a night watchman who was killed there years earlier. Maxwell was a devotee of theatre and drama during his earthly existence and was praised for his performances in The Doctor’s Dilemma, Blithe Spirit, and the BBC television series Shadow of the Tower.Perhaps Manchester’s best-kept yet most popular secret is the network of tunnels that lay beneath the city streets. A complex labyrinth of World War II bomb shelters, ancient chambers and a forgotten underground canal, this is a world so mysterious that even those who conduct tours down there confess that they don’t always know what they’ll find. The vigil in the attic of the premises was equally exciting. Witnessing the light anomalies and the response from the K2 Meter to questions asked by the group was amazing. Overall a first class event and experience and one that my wife and I will hope to repeat in the future." Your night will begin with an introduction to the team, followed by tours of the location to highlight the most active areas of the building. You will be split in to smaller groups, as we believe that you ghost hunt experience should be as personal to you as it is to us.

Dare to visit this spooky Halloween takeover at the Trafford Centre Credit: Supplied Thank you HH & Spooky Nights. This was my 3rd event with you and I have say this is the best so far. Here took place a decidedly by-the-numbers ghost story in the middle of the nineteenth century. A man caught sight of his sister Fanny stood in the nave. Having thought her to be many miles away at the time, this took him somewhat by surprise. He called to her, but she suddenly vanished. Of course, the next day the man would learn that at about the time of the sighting, Fanny had been involved in a fatal accident. Chilling! Just don’t wander around the cathedral shouting “Fanny” in an attempt to summon her spirit. That wouldn’t go down well. Another ghostly tale tells of the tragic man known as George, a man in his 30s with a pencil moustache - who took his own life in the 1930s while at the hotel. His eternal soul now calls desperately to passers-by from a window on the Brownlow Hill side of the hotel. Legend has it that the pub is haunted by the ghost of a cavalier named Edward, murdered by Cromwell’s Army when they passed through the town. He’s said to have appeared wearing royalist uniform in front of regulars and landlords, and punters have also reported witnessing glasses sliding along the bar and hearing heavy footsteps and peculiar noises.
