About this deal

Wrong Genre Savvy: Jieun enters the story thinking that she's the heroine of a fantasy story and that Aristia is the villainess, and this causes her to blunder her way through high society and cause numerous problems. Even after she gets a second chance, she willingly allies herself with Zena, the man who murdered her in the original timeline, in hopes of getting revenge. She's only spared from being executed along with the rest of his family because she tips Ruve's allies off about her assassination plot and gives up her power to save Aristia's life. About Carsein, he is Tia's protector to the end. He's a very nice and reliable friend/brother to her. But sadly, his love is unrequited and he has to give up on it when Tia accepts Ruve's hand. In the second timeline, it is Jieun who has this, blaming all her failures and the way people eventually turned away from her on other people, particularly Aristia. I know that many people has been disappointed with the novel ending. Many has also been warn people not to read this manhwa. But, I think this is a great manhwa for those who, like me, enjoys a tragic story with a 'bad ending'. Ipersonally think it's not a 'bad ending' per se. I'll explain this further with how i think about the character development. So, is this different enough from similar books? Well, maybe. I could read ahead, but will wait for subsequent volumes to see what happens - there is every danger that they’ll try to reform Ruve, which is probably going to leave a bad taste in my mouth since it’s one thing to erase an act and a whole other to suggest the intent was never there. That’s my biggest cautionary note, certainly.

Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole: The drugging plotline and some related issues later in the story seem out of left field in the manhwa. In the novel, it's mentioned early on that Tia has been feeling weirdly emotionally volatile lately and doesn't know why. At the same time, Jeiun starts viewing her with more hostility and wariness when before she had tried to get along with Tia, albeit poorly. This, when this plot point is reintroduced, it doesn't carry as much weight.

Interest Stacks

If anything it makes me hopeful that we’ll see a print release of the incredibly gay and incredibly bawdy Mage & Demon Queen at some point) Heir Club for Men: Averted. Tia attempting to inherit the position of marquis is not considered that remarkable in itself and is only considered odd because she shouldn't really be the heir for completely different reasons. On the other hand, the imperial throne is reserved for men; whether it's possible to inherit through a female relative is never touched upon.

The massive complaint and argument that is bound to be found when talking about The Abandoned Empress is the ending. Specifically, the fact that Aristia ends up with Ruve. This caused many a reader to stop reading after they found out about the ending due to the abuse that the original Ruve had put on her and believe that even if he changed in the new timeline, they don't accept it as it comes across as an Unfortunate Implications that Tia ends up with the man who abused her in the past (I.E, the original timeline), and would rather have Tia be paired with Carsein or Allendis. However, there is a second party who are accepting it with the argument that Aristia is paired with a Ruve who changed and end up being kinder towards her due to For Want Of A Nail effects in play, and shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of the original timeline Ruve, considering them as different individuals. Then there's the middle ground: those who find the fact uncomfortable but still continue to read despite knowing that regardless to see how the webcomic adaptation handles this and eventually accepting how the matter is handled or they don't. Easily Forgiven: Jieun specifically calls Aristia out on how she refuses to hold a grudge against the crown prince for What he did in the original timeline. This is played with as the crown prince in the current timeline has nothing to do with the actions of his alternate self, and is ultimately a very different person. He renounces his plans at the last minute. His POV is extremely disturbing. Lots of people actually felt filthy and frightened after reading it. At this point in the novel, I was quite happy to see Allendis disappear from Tia's life for good tbh.
