Speaking of things Harley Laroux clearly "gets", I could gush for a long damn time about the PTSD and trauma rep in this book. Juniper's PTSD is beautifully well-written and I related to her so many times, so I loved this over-arching theme of healing on our own time, not being forced through it, and not being made to feel guilty for the ways in which we cope in the meantime. Zane adds so much to this, too; he's never Juniper's "savior", he's just there to help where he can, and to be there for her. Everyone needs someone like that in their life and I adored every single bit of dialogue between the two of them regarding her trauma and healing. I applauded and admired Harley Laroux for her boldness when it came to the steamy scenes in 𝐇𝐒𝐓𝐓 and she delivered again in this book. The plot was a bit more developed here and the story was as entertaining as 𝐇𝐒𝐓𝐓 with even more violence, murder and a lot of emotional moments. Even tho the pacing was a bit slower at moment and we did have some repetitive dialogue that irritated me a little, it wouldn't have ruined this story for me if it wasn't already. There’s danger and plenty of monsters that are after Rae and her only defence is Leon who initially wants her soul in return for his protection got to say I was on the edge of my seat in apprehension over just what could happen here. Really disappointed that her character ruined this book for me. I enjoyed the supernatural elements and like Leon. The sex was hot and creative and Leon has some different anatomy going for him which was actually really hot.

Honestly, this book exceeded all my expectations. I was never once bored; both the romance, smut, and plot had me very entertained. Leon, as mentioned, is just delectable and a reminder to me that hot men exist. Sometimes dark romance love interests are too cringey to me because they're always yelling and barking which makes me unable to take them seriously, but Leon is all cool and calm, that's how he maintains his power and it's hot af. The sex scenes were so unique and well-written. I really do recommend this for anyone who's looking to get into dark romance. I love how, although this is dark romance, HL still makes it so that the act is always consensual and both characters can always use their safeword. You should know that I love you, for whatever that’s worth. Stay alive. Now the reason for my rating, at the end of 𝐇𝐒𝐓𝐓 we know that him and Juniper are a thing and i didn't really like that because 𝐈 𝐃𝐈𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐑. I don't know why or what made me dislike her that much so don't ask me i really don't have an answer for you, but i did and that's why it took me 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 to read this. I had to wait until my brain would let go of all the thoughts i had of her so i could enjoy some Sexy Zane Read, and i finally did. I went in this with a clean slate but unfortunately 𝐈 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋 felt the same way about her. Actually it was worse this time because we didn't have her for just two scenes and unfortunately too much of her made her 𝐒𝐎 𝐅#𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 to me. Oh he is sooo protective of rae like my man literally was ready to lose a limb for his girl and did everything and anything he could to save her.

Her Soul To Take is so filled with dirty and dark stuff I found myself shrugging and nodding (and also panting a little) at the craziest stuff that happened y the end of it. It gave off The Hollow Gods vibes, which is another book I totally loved; the whole small town eerie halo, the cult of fanatics, the freaking mystery. It was better than a movie, and Laroux wrote it so well I almost didn't care about the kinkiest sex I've ever read about. Raelynn and Leon's chemistry is on another level. I wasn't fully convinced by their romance, at first, but once they started becoming friends, it was undeniable that these two are made for each other and would do anything to keep the other from suffering. But the way she finds her other half in someone just as murder-y as her.... CHEF KISS!!! They're really meant to be. Both love pain kink, knife play, blood play, every single thing they love the other one also loves. So it's a match made in heaven... or Hell? *wink* Zane is a demon who has been following Juniper for years, making every single being know that she belongs to him. We do have a boy obsess with the heroine trope and it's so beautiful to see you don't even know. Her Soul for Revenge is a parallel story to Her Soul To Take, showing the same events from Juniper and Zane's point of view. Although I was wondering exactly how this would work, I loved every second of it! I loved seeing bits and pieces of Leon and Rae's relationship from another perspective! Even more than that, Juniper was the protagonist I've always hoped for! She was an absolute badass who just needed a bit of help from a demon to get her revenge.
