Like most 14-inchers, the Latitude 14 7480 offers only an M.2 SSD slot (located right next to the battery) – no 2.5-inch drive bay, unfortunately. Anyway, SSDs with the 2280 standard fit in while the motherboard itself supports PCIe NVMe SSDs. However, our unit shipped with SanDisk X400 M.2 running on SATA III controller, which is a big let-down since the laptop falls into the premium segment. At first, we weren’t expecting any mind-blowing results but after the tests, the battery life on this thing is just phenomenal. Thanks to the big 60Wh battery and the energy-efficient ULV (ultra-low voltage) Intel Core i5-7200U CPU, the laptop reaches the second position in our battery ranking table with just a few minutes shy to our current leader – the HP Spectre x360 13. I have both E7470 and 7480. The display of 7480 is better in terms of white color. The white areas of 7480 seems a bit gray or yellowish.This is not related to brightness, even I reduce the brightness of E7470 (7480 is set to max) , the white areas are more white on E7470. I would prefer E7470 in terms of screen.

Would like to put a question, which constitutes for me, by now, an issue: what about the keys “Home” and “End” being not dedicated ones, but force us to press 2 keys (Fn+Home) to obtain the same job as in the most keyboards? Switching on the GPU stress test, however, didn’t result in CPU throttling, which is the usual case, but it did lower the frequency down to 2.9 GHz. Operations seem to be normal even under extended heavy workload without overheating.
Our Latitude is equipped with a 14-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) anti-glare panel from LG Philips (LGD0557) with a corresponding pixel density of 157 ppi. With an average brightness of 321 cd/m², the panel compares well to those of other, higher-end business notebooks, althoughthe Latitude 14 E7470 withWQHD touch panel was a bit brighter still. Speaking of panels: Dell offers the i3-version of the 7480 with the 14-inch HD (1366 x 768 pixels) or the 14-inch FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels); the Core i5 and i7 models are available with the 14-inch QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) touch display with Gorilla Glass as well. Overall system performance is very good according to the synthetic benchmark test PCMark 8: with scores of 5052, 4981, and 3985 in the Work, Creative, and Home subtests, the system sits either at or near the top in our comparison and outperforms the smaller Latitude 7280 with the same CPU by 2 - 8 % depending on the test. Systems with the slower Core i5-7200U CPU like theHP EliteBook 840 are 10 - 13 % slower than the review laptop. With regards to the noise, the Latitude 7480 is decidedly a "mixed bag". On the plus side, the notebook is exceptionally quiet as far as the expected noise is concerned thanks to hinge-based exhaust fan location. At idle, the system is more or less inaudible at 28.6 dB. Even when experiencing heavy stress the notebook tops out at only 31 dB, which is whisper-quiet even by business notebook standards. Most other systems are louder: the two ThinkPads reach just under 40 dB, the dual-fan equipped Latitude 5480 tops out at a much more noticeable 47 dB. The panel used for this unit is a Full HD (1920×1080) IPS manufactured by LG with model number LGD0557 (LP140WF7) with 14-inch diagonal. This means that the pixel density is 157 ppi while the pixel pitch is 0.161 x 0.161 mm. It can be considered as “Retina” when viewed from a distance equal or greater than 56 cm. The maximum dE2000 color deviation is 2.7, which isn’t bad since values above 4.0 are usually unwanted especially when there’s color sensitive work involved. The contrast ratio is good – 1010:1.Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
