The way you manage your kitchen essentials and tools determines your convenience in future tasks. When you don’t know where the Ziploc or grocery bags are, you’ll face some last-minute frustration for sure. Therefore, organizing things in your kitchen is the best way to keep your kitchen look tidy. Organizing kitchen items such as aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and parchment paper can be quite a challenge. But with the help of a pegboard, you can make your pantry look stylish and well-organized. Here’s how to hang these kitchen essentials on a pegboard so they’re always within reach.
The remaining steps are all completely optional. You can finish your Ziploc bag organizer however your heart desires. You can use paint or stain or leave it as natural wood. Once my holes were drilled, I grabbed my multi-mark tool and connected the space between my holes. For the most part, things lined up with the lines that I previously drew. However, there were one or two spots where my holes did get a little of out alignment. The full size pantry in our North Carolina rental has more space than we need for food storage, making it an ideal location for these other items! Step 3 – Research Organizer Options We made our entire Ziploc organizer out of a 2’x4’ sheet of maple plywood. Cut your plywood down to sizes you need according to the cut list above.Next, we will build the dividers for the Ziploc bag storage using the front piece, the long divider, and the short dividers.
We used our circular saw and Kreg rip cut guide to cut everything down, but you could also use a table saw. STEP 2: CUT HOLES FOR ZIPLOC BAGS Grab your top piece and start sketching out where you want to cut. Each of the compartments will be approximately 2.5” wide. you can then shop around for the best organization solution that meets your budget, layout, and installation needs. It has enough spots for all the various size bags and wraps we normally keep on hand, and it does so in just a few units (instead of a collection of many individual boxes).

Before you build your own, measure your drawer to make sure that the inside is at least 13” wide and 3.5” deep. Cardboard boxes are busy. By eliminating the excess color, text, and patterns, you reduce visual clutter which in turn helps everything look and feel more tidy. Now that everything is assembled, it’s time to finish it up! We first filled all of the nail holes using a stainable wood filler. Our current kitchen doesn’t have an abundance of kitchen drawers. And the ones we do have are pretty small. Not only did our plastic bags and wraps not fit quite right, but I had other items that were far more appropriate for drawer storage (e.g., gadgets, utensils, etc). Shopping bags are easy to store. You can stitch a bag sleeve with plain cotton fabric and stuff all extra shopping bags in it or use a mountable bag organizer for this task. Either way, the shopping bags will be in your sight, while your kitchen will remain decluttered. How dirty are reusable grocery bags?
The short dividers should be placed approximately 3 5/8” from each other and from either end of the long divider/front pieces. Nail through the front piece and into the short dividers. Then nail through the long divider and into the short dividers. I added 2-3 nails to each side of each divider. Once your Ziploc organizer is dry, you can insert your bags! To do that, you’ll just insert them through the top. If you don’t have scrap wood laying around, you can make one for the price of a 2×4 sheet of plywood, which is still about 50% cheaper than buying one of the cheaper options. Drawer dividers come in a variety of sizes and materials, so it’s easy to find one that will fit perfectly in any storage space. The adjustable design lets you customize it to suit your needs – just move the walls to adjust the width of each compartment. If everything doesn’t line up perfectly, it’s okay. It’s just a box that goes in a drawer. You’ll really only ever seen the top and maybe one side of it! STEP 3: PREP FOR STAIN OR PAINTAre you always throwing your kitchen foils and bags into the same kitchen drawer, only to dig through a mountain of mess when you need something? It’s time to get organized with drawer dividers! These simple compartments are perfect for organizing all your food wraps, sandwich bags, and other small items. Not to be dramatic, but there’s nothing more annoying than a messy, disorganized drawer. We decided to build a DIY Ziploc bag organizer to make one of our drawers a little less disheveled.
