About this deal

Assembly is easy and, like before, there’s a cable clutter system to route cables through the protruding ‘feet’ of the stand for a tidier area. The stand supports the TV well, just like it did on the older model, but it takes up a lot of space.

As of 2021, Hisense introduced gaming features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and variable refresh rate support to some higher-end TVs. Now, their higher-end TVs support up to 4k @ 144Hz, and even their cheaper models have advanced gaming features, such as VRR. We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for two months in our Accelerated Longevity Test. The Google TV smart interface offers customization options and can sync up with other Google services for personalized recommendations. (Image credit: Future) Hisense U8H review: smart TV & menus The TV's audio system uses a 2.1.2 Dolby Atmos speaker system with 50 watts total power, with an Acoustic Tuning Adjustment providing automatic sound calibration. One of its HDMI outputs supports eARC for connecting to an external soundbar – something the TV’s width-adjustable support feet are designed to accommodate – and there’s also a WiSA option for wirelessly connecting WiSA-certified speakers to the TV.Hisense's U8K series uses the Google TV smart interface. When it comes to gaming, it's the high-end models where you'll get the best array of features. It's the same with the other brands and you always need to pay top prices for 120Hz displays, variable refresh rate (VRR), and graphics technology FreeSync or G-Sync. Sound, not so much. The surround sound depends on how you locate the TV I assume. Mine is in a corner and the sound of talking is suppressed somewhat so you need to increase the volume. A soundbar is so much better, unless you don't actually have one so cost restrictions, look in the settings and take a little time to perfect your choices. This very pleasant design language extends to the TV’s remote control handset. It too has a metal frame, and features some very sensibly contoured buttons covering pretty much all aspects of functionality. There’s a mic for use with voice-assistance, and buttons to the likes of Netflix and Disney+.

Hisense TVs with Quantum Dot technology are called QLED by the company. Other TVs, like this one, are called ULED – which refers to TVs with ‘ultra-wide colour gamut’, ‘ultra local dimming’, ‘ultra 4K resolution’ and ‘ultra smooth motion rate’ – at least three of which are also offered by its QLED TVs. ULED TVs don’t always have Quantum Dot technology – this one does, but it’s not a QLED TV, it’s ULED.Hisense TVs have all the tech they need to succeed, but top-tier features doesn't always add up to a top TV. A brand needs the know-how and skill to make the most of them. Display types Subtitles and audio description information displayed on electronic programme guide programme banner

The U8H’s coverage of DCI-P3, the color gamut used for mastering movies for digital cinema and 4K Blu-ray disc, was 97% when measured using Portrait Displays’ Calman color calibration software. And while we’ve logged higher coverage on sets like Sony’s A80K OLED, the Hisense’s performance here is impressive for budget TV. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits) A total of four HDMI inputs are provided, with two offering HDMI 2.1 features such as 4K/120Hz support, variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low latency mode (ALLM). Other gamer-friendly features include Freesync Premium Pro, and there’s also HDMI eARC support. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) While Hisense doesn’t specifically pitch the U8H as a gaming TV, its 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM support, along with FreeSync Premium Pro, make it one of the better set options for gaming, particularly in its price class. Aside from a Game picture mode, there’s not much in the way of related menu adjustments, though there is an HDR picture mode for gaming. The U8K series TVs have a basic but good overall look, with a slim bezel and adjustable width support feet. Being able to set the feet to either a wide or narrow width gives you a greater range of placement options, and it also helps make space for a soundbar. We measured the Hisense’s input lag at 111ms in Filmmaker mode and an impressive 11.2ms in Game mode, a result that puts the Hisense in the same league as the best 120 Hz 4K TVs for next-gen gaming . Disappointingly, there are fewer HDMI ports – three instead of four, but ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) are covered across all of them so you could plug a game console into any port and benefit from those features – though they are HDMI 2.0 ports, not 2.1 specified. eARC is supported on HDMI 2 for pass-through of lossless audio.

Let’s start with what’s good. The bezel is discreet enough to not intrude on the TV viewing experience, and the depth of the set is just 78mm without the stand, making it appreciatively slim in appearance. Otherwise, it has features you don't normally find on TVs at this price range. It has VRR support, although over the narrow 48-60Hz range. It doesn't support HDR10+ like the more expensive models, but it does have Dolby Vision, which is more widespread. It doesn't support advanced DTS audio formats, but it does support DTS 5.1 over ARC. It has good response time and superbly low input lag, so it's a decent gaming TV overall. Ultimately, this is the best cheap TV on the market, and it's almost as good as the more expensive U6K. These are launch prices, too. As the months roll on, the prices drop as they do with TVs from all brands. So as the costs fall on LG and Samsung sets, they do with Hisense's, too. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output

Lineup

Hisense's basic remote has well marked buttons and includes a built-in mic for Google Assistant voice searches. (Image credit: Future) Hisense U8H review: design As I am removing the plastic you realise that the screen has almost no bezel and the screen seems to float over it. Which leads me to the one egregious aspect of the A7G’s design. The stand is just too big. If you have an area (or whatever furniture you’re using) big enough to accommodate both the A7G and a soundbar – and you will want to partner this TV with a soundbar – then it’s fine. If you don’t, the stand causes some unnecessary faffing about to make space. If you're on a tighter budget, the Hisense U6/U6Koffers great value compared to similarly-priced models from other brands. Unlike the Hisense U7K and Hisense U8/U8K, you aren't getting the same high-end features and performance, but it's still quite decent. It uses the same quantum dot technology, which means it displays a wide range of colors and has remarkable pre-calibration accuracy, so you won't have to get it calibrated to get accurate colors. The new OLED and Mini LED sets take top billing for 2021, which has led to the QLED/ULED options shuffling down the line to make space, the A7G looking to offer HDR performance at an affordable price.
