These Crowns were produced to commemorate the Festival of Britain which took place on the South Bank of the River Thames in London opening on the 4th May 1951 for five months which was literally 100 years after the Great Exhibition in London'€™s Hyde Park from May to October 1851.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The coin is of a Crown denomination, which was five shillings (5'), one quarter of One Pound Sterling. They come in a snap-lock plastic bag, ready to be added to your collection, all coins are in Fine condition and you get one coin of every date 1947-1951.

Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. In 1951 for the Festival of Britain the Royal Mint issued a crown under King George VI for the Festival of Britain.Paget's recommendation had come via his earlier design for the obverse of a medal featuring the then-Prince of Wales. To avoid the need for Aidan to come back with more information, the polished die version was only sold at the British Exhibition in New York, which is one reason they are paricularly hard to find in the UK. We have recently purchased a nice group of these coins which grade in Fine condition so they are affordable to fill that gap in your date run.

That is like the old 'problem' of getting a merchant to accept silver dollars, even in the 1960 when the coins were silver. Just as advertised and not like MANY others who photograph their notes beneath glass and with favourable lighting to make them look WAY nicer than what arrives in the post. You should carefully consider the risks associated with investing in Bullion, taking into account your own individual financial needs and circumstances. Four hundred years later, on the occasion of the Festival of Britain, the Royal Mint has issued a Crown piece, bearing on its edge the date 1851-1951 in Roman numerals, and a Latin inscription CIVIUM INDUSTRIA FLORET CIVITAS - "By the industry of its people the State flourishes". Around that time many Europeans countries had similar sized silver coins which made them good for international trade as they were essentially interchangeable.George VI (1936-1952) George VI was King of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 until his death on 6 February 1952.
