About this deal

Using traditional skills and materials, we engineer mens luggage and accessories tailored to a contemporary world. Whether functioning with all its components, or broken up to serve an individual purpose, this suit carrier and holdall makes for the perfect bag for business trips, weddings, or weekends away.

Because both are made from canvas, and have minimal structure, they can be carried as one bag without being too heavy. There is a huge difference in costs of canvas, and canvas of this weight, double thickness and bonded, is expensive. When one considers that there are approximately 480 million business trips made every year, one wonders in what state these intrepid corporate travellers arrive at their meetings in. It was an intuitive pre-sketchbook response that a garment wrapped around a large diameter would be less likely to crease, and that the circumference of a holdall was very close to the length of a suit. Or don’t you have a need to use it much at all, and simply fold over jackets and trousers in a weekender/suitcase?

The problem seems particularly acute in this case as this canvas-on-canvas connection is meant to take the full weight of the full suit carrier plus central bag combination and as BW is a relatively new company without a track record of durability. This is especially true when we split the leather down a little to reduce the weight (while staying plenty thick enough to be durable).

Is there a way to hang the suit carrier part of it in a wardrobe or on a door etc without trying to hook another coat hanger through the handle? With a unique two-in-one format, the garment bag section wraps around a holdall to ensure that tailoring arrives at your destination completely uncreased, thanks to not having to fold your jacket or trousers. There are certain budget airlines that have smaller carry-on allowances for which we cannot comment, but as a rule if you do not overpack the bag you should be fine even on these. Why, in a world of very few limitations on where and how we travel, has no-one invented a practical way to get our suits from A to B without creasing them beyond all recognition? Do you find it useful for that, or do you only use it when you need to bring a suit, and stick with a weekender/suitcase otherwise? Indeed, our experience with the British brand’s products has been nothing less than outstanding, as one would expect for a company that prides itself on handmade craft and attention to detail, as evidenced by the vegetable-tanned full-grain leather panels on the bottom of the bag and solid brass hardware throughout.

It can actually, because the canvas is waterproof – as explained in my previous post, it is actually two layers of canvas bonded together, in the same way a Mac is made. It took Crompton and Bennett Winch over 18 months and countless iterations to finally strike upon a solution that gave adequate protection to the contents of the bag.Our goods will last more many years to come and we intend for them to become tomorrow’s treasured heirlooms, so make it personal, on us. The absence of an effective suit carrying holdall was originally put to us by Simon Crompton of Permanent Style, and as advocates of minimalism, the challenge of designing a single product that does the job of two became our immediate focus, then a bit of an obsession and eventually, the Bennett Winch S. This design is a close repeat of the Henty (formed in 2012) Wingman bag (known to commuting cyclists) and similar to Biaggi’s Hangeroo – though an older idea I think it only right that this be explained rather than framing the product as unique to your own development process. Although many of our collaborations have taken a while, this has been the hardest and most time-consuming ever.

I always thought you might sometimes, be a tad pedantic on some (very few) of your answers, but i now understand why it might have appeared so, by reading the 57th question about the carry-on luggage, or how many grams of pressure the handles will support at 10 000 feet, in a middle of barrel-roll. We would however strongly advise storing your product in the dust bag provided when not in use; you’ll thank yourself next time you hit the road with a pristine carry. Given that even the most diligently folded clothes emerge looking crumpled after shuttling about from hub to hub in an aluminium tube at 36,000ft, travelling with a suit in a bag really isn't acceptable, particularly when busy business schedules won't allow for pressing of said suit on arrival. Our Suit Carrier Holdalls can fit more than one suit – however, they are designed to take a single jacket and trouser to your destination without you having to steam or press on the other side. Strictly speaking, it seems a couple of inches too high and wide to be an acceptable carry-on, but I know the standards are pretty flexible in practice. After having used the suit carrier holdall for some weeks (on a daily basis, given I am on the road most of my time), I can say that its light, a great design, and best of all Bennett Winch have stellar service: when one button came off, Robin (Nennett) responded within less than a day and offered not only a repair, but a replacement suit carrier. The challenge is if you want to take two suits/jackets (wear one and carry one), then you can’t use the shoulder strap and the bag is very heavy which is fine if you don’t have far to walk are taking taxis around etc. Would you say that this holdall (without the suit carrier) is roughly the same size as the commuter one?
