About this deal

So, if you can’t use this camera for deep sky astrophotography, can you use it as a guide camera? Well, no, and yes, it depends.

For a long time, the cheapest option to do planetary imaging was using modified webcams with the telescope. I also wrote an article on how to use a webcam with a telescope. But manufacturers are building cameras that are the same price as webcams and without the need for modifications. Astronomy cameras are always made for a specific purpose. So we have planetary cameras with high FPS and cameras for deep sky imaging capable of doing long exposures. How to capture the best images I think it might be somewhat interesting as a guide camera. I don't guide, however, so it doesn't interest me in that regard. or exposure is too high, which needs lowering exposure to the minimum millisecond value, and/or using a filter to dim the image (a moon, or ND, or variable polarizing filter). If it's exposure, then a barlow could also help (by making the image larger, the barlow spreads the light) The SVBONY SV105 is a bit light-sensitive, more than a webcam, and I’ve had some friends confirm this.Seeing conditions were not optimal in any of the images. Still waiting for a good night so I can push the limit of the camera. I have tried to work the sv 105 with my 5SE. I can't get anything on my laptop but varying shades of gray. I wrote into the company (no one there seems fluent in English). She ultimately concluded I would need a focal reducer. Is this worth trying or should I just return the thing? Just trying to get a little beginenner astrophotography started. To be able to capture nebulae or galaxies, the camera needs to be capable of doing long exposure shots of at least a minimum of 30s. The maximum exposure of SVBONY SV105 is only 500ms, so it is impossible to do deep sky astrophotography.

SVBONY SV105 Review (Read Before Purchase) - Telescope Guides

Starting up AstroDMx Capture for Windows and applying real-time flat-field correction to the captured data.growing noob going into serious mode. Panoptic 41mm on c11 vs cheap 40mm e-lux. Am I inexperienced? Not seeing the difference on first night. The Svbony SV105 and SV205 cameras, while intended for planetary astrophotography, can also be used as a guide camera. The main limitation is that they do not have long exposure times and are not real sensitive so they can only guide on brighter stars. More about this later. Both of these cameras use the UVC (USB Video device Class) format that is recognized by both Windows and Mac OS. In windows it is also known as OpenCV. As of this writing the SV305 camera cannot be used with guiding software as it does not use the UVC format, instead having its own driver. It will need either a specific driver written for PHD2 or MetaGuide or have an ASCOM driver. This document assumes you have a GOTO mount with a computer connection. The SV105 and SV205 do not have ST-4 connectors so cannot connect to the mount directly. In reality, since you need a computer to run the software it is actually better to connect to the mount through its driver rather than an ST-4 port.

SVBONY SV105 Camera? How do I get better images with the SVBONY SV105 Camera?

There are many reasons to like the SVBONY SV105 planetary imaging camera. I like that it’s easy to use and set up. The images were also of considerable quality despite the meager price point.

Its limitations are quite obvious but not surprising. It does the job and meets expectations. That’s more than enough for someone testing the waters of planetary imaging. If you use a refractor telescope with 1500mm or 1200mm focal length work together with SV105, then you could not see it directly. You need a focal reducer 0.5x ( F9154 ), then you could see the clear image from SV105. looking closer it seems the same chip is in theZWO ASI 290MC Color cam as well. That runs about 269.00 right now lowest cost. average about 299.00.
