About this deal

Choose which side of the time board you’d like to play with and place it in the middle of the table. There is no difference between the sides, choosing a side is simply a matter of aesthetic preference. If you have played the original Patchwork, then you will know how it works. The gameplay hasn’t changed in this version. So, what is Patchwork Halloween Edition exactly? Well, it is exactly what it says on the box. A spooky, witch, bat, and pumpkin covered rendition of Uwe Rosenberg’s classic two-player puzzly powerhouse! Spooky Set Up! If you are already familiar with Patchwork then you will know the game and how it works – this version brings nothing new to the technical gameplay itself. But what it does do is provide a beautiful, seasonal rendition of Rosenberg’s tile-laying two-player powerhouse and the novel, colourful present wrapping design is a perfect excuse to add it to your existing collection, or to gift it to somebody who has been very good this year! Santa’s Set Up Patchwork DOODLE was released in 2019. This is a "roll and write" game that uses cards to represent the pieces, and has players roll a die to determine which pieces to play. Players then draw the pieces on a sketchpad board. Try to leave some space for larger tiles towards the end of the game. At the start of the game you will not have enough buttons to buy the larger tiles. By the end of the game you will want them to fill in spaces but they can be awkward shapes and sizes so bear this in mind when building your grid.

The game ends after both time tokens reach the last space of the time board. The tokens cannot move past the last space on the board. If one player ends before the other they simply wait for the other player to end too. Patchwork plays fast, the instructions are fairly simple, and the game does not imply lots of strategy and deep thinking. However, doing well in Patchwork is not that easy. Many patches have peculiar shape, which is something you have to take into account while building your quilt. If it is uneven and there are blank spaces, you will lose points.A digital version of Patchwork was released in 2016 on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux, and as an app on the App Store and Google Play. It was developed by DIGIDICED and published by Asmodee Digital. If you don’t, you’ll be on Santa’s naughty list and will incur a 2 button penalty at the end game scoring for each vacant square on your board. Because of this reverse-racing element, passing, rather than a no-other-option turn, then takes on a tactical aspect that can frustrate your opponent like a tiger tangled up in tinsel! The game ends when both players have run out of time - in other words, when they’ve reached the middle of the time board. If you decide to buy a patch, you must move the neutral token into the space of the patch you’re buying, pay the button price marked on the patch piece, move your time token the indicated number of spaces on the time board and place your patch on your quilt board. It’s important to note that once you place a patch, it can’t be moved for the rest of the game - so choose wisely. The central time board is placed in the middle of the playing table and then place both players time tokens on the starting space. Choose who goes first (or the player who last used a needle starts)!

The aim of Patchwork is simple: in this game, as in life, the player with the most buttons wins. Why? Because, let’s face it: buttons are great.

My original Patchwork has a patch that shows no cost, but makes me advance three spots. Is this a printing error?

Inspired by quilting - sewing together patches of fabric to create a single made up of different patterns - Patchwork doesn’t exactly inspire much excitement in its opening statement. But trust us, this is a title that anyone who is looking for a chill and potentially highly competitive experience for two people should definitely have in their games library. a b c d e Vose, Thomas (7 December 2020). "Game Review: Patchwork". Games and Gaming Round Table, American Library Association. Archived from the original on 13 November 2021 . Retrieved 12 November 2021. Patchwork Express was released in 2018. It uses the same mechanics as the original Patchwork, but has larger tiles, fewer squares per board, and simpler scoring, making it easier for a younger audience or faster gameplay.

In terms of play time, it lasts until it’s done. If you’re like me and you colour like you’re late for a meeting the game could be over in minutes. However, that’s not the way you’re supposed to play! It lasts as long as you put effort in, and you can put in as much effort as your opponents have time for. Two of us haphazardly coloured and ended up with a sheet that would make a four-year-old wince. The other two took care and attention and produced some very attractive quilts! Regardless of scores, those who took their time definitely made better use of the game. The illustrations were done by Klemens Franz, Rosenberg’s frequent collaborator. He is known for his paintings is such games as Agricola, Le Havre and Orleans (2014) Game Components Patchwork Doodle is therapeutic. There is no denying how easy going and relaxed a game this is. I’ve played other roll and writes, and I can’t deny there is more of a relaxed feel to them over other games. This game, however, is truly chilled. It doesn’t require you to be around a table, which is great. It’s also very mobile, so long as you have coloured pencils and somewhere to place the cards. Even then it doesn’t require masses of space. I’d even argue it is compact enough to be an ideal travel game! If you do not want to buy a patch, you can pass. Then you move your time token in front of your opponent’s token and a button for each space you have moved.Patchwork is a strategy with a rather abstract theme – making a quilt of colorful patches. It may not seem very exciting to many gamers who are used to adventures, fantasy, travels in time and space, and fighting monsters. This time, Uwe Rosenberg offers his admirers a peaceful and domestic pastime that you may enjoy while having a cup of tea and sharing gossip about your neighbors. The only difference in round three is that for the final patch you can choose any of the final three available. Finally, you count your totals and produce a final score, minus all blanks on your sheet. The colors of the patches in the game are not relevant. The most important piece of information on the tiles is the number of buttons, which are blue, so they should be easy to see. The scoring tokens are green and yellow, which should not cause a problem for most color blind people, but if so, you could mark one of them. Can I Play Patchwork Online?
