About this deal

Again it splits into thirds, so you can do stuff like have an entrance on both sides, leaving the middle in place. The Berghaus Freedom 7 even large windows on the dividing wall between the living area and front porch as well as many different configurations.

The central living area in the tent is a rather decent size. The beam shape on the Berghaus Freedom 7 means the walls are almost vertical, resulting in much bigger feeling and useable living space inside. A height for heads – I’m almost 6” tall and with arm stretched, I can just touch the highest point of this tent. If you are on the taller side, this would be a great tent for you. Being able to walk around inside, without having to be constantly crouching over. On the other side, if you are a shorty, you may well struggle to get your lights up on the hanging hooks without something to stand on. We inspect the interiors of the tents during and after testing to see how each fares against the elements. Some tents manage to stay firm, but others blow over and even have puddles in the sleeping compartments. There are 2 side doors, both with inner mesh panels and windows. One has an air canopy over the top for entry when the weather is wet. The other door has eyelets in the lower corners and can be king poled out if you have any. A good rule of thumb is to go for a tent that's claimed to sleep one more person than you need. If you're a family of four, for example, we'd recommend going for a five-person tent. There’s definitely plenty of room for a full size table and chairs to sit around and have a meal or play a game etc. and lets just say that if your camping consists of lots of inflatable sofas, furniture and big TVs – you will not be disappointed. Tents with rigid poles made of stainless steel or aluminium are for building a rigid frame that will keep your tent sturdy in the wind. They can be heavier and more cumbersome to pitch, though. Most tents have thin, collapsible poles made from fibreglass. They often fold up into a compact size and are connected by an elastic cord. They're usually flexible and will need to be bent to fit the shape of the tent canvas during pitching. Not all tents have indoor communal spaces that can house all the campers if the weather turns, and even those that do aren't always large enough for everyone to be comfortable. There are also tents with inflatable poles. You'll need to pump up each pole individually, so it can take a bit of effort, but you can avoid trying to feed the poles through the tent canvas.

We consider how easy it is to get into and out of the main entrances and sleeping compartments, how bright and roomy the living spaces are, and if we consider there to be enough room for the number of people intended to sleep in the tent. This again is a rather large area and we used it as our kitchen/food preparation area. There’s no ground sheet in this area, so there’s no slipping problems if there are any spills.Tent footprints are available to buy separately from tents at outdoor retailers. They're essentially an extra groundsheet that you can pitch before your tent, with the aim of pitching your tent on top of it. The weather was kind to us, so during the evening we had the entire front zipped off and sat around enjoying the BioLite fire pit.
