You can create and manipulate a huge range of sounds using the onboard simple yet extremely effective parameters.

A Volca sample features an easy swing and can load more samples. Its powerful workflow and ease of sampling make the Volca sample better than drum machines in some situations. Korg warrants that the Licensed Program when properly used will provide the facilities and functions as described in the accompanying documentation but does not warrant that the operation of the Licensed Program will be uninterrupted or error-free.

The extra performance features turn this model into a credible stand-alone instrument, but even as a MIDI module, it could earn its keep. The term "digital" typically brings to mind sounds that are based on PCM-sampled bass drum, snare drum, or cymbal, but the volca drum creates its drum sounds by DSP-powered analog modeling. Oscillator waveforms such as sine wave, sawtooth wave, and noise are provided. By applying various changes to these waveforms, you can create a wide variety of percussion sounds that range from realistic to idiosyncratic, and are not limited only to drums. The Volca Drum produces the most original and authentic sound quality with the digital drum machine sound engine. Combining the effects and multi-layered resonators, gives you a satisfying user experience. Support services such as technical support or upgrade support for this product are provided according to the support service policies of Korg’s distributors applicable in each country.

When the pitch knob is turned all the way to the left, the resonant waveform can be played chromatically. To best exploit this capability, the 16 step keys are laid out like a keyboard, its range just over an octave (A-C).
