About this deal

The volume of the X1 is definitely above average, but it really shines when you evaluate its ability to go from zero to printing in mere seconds. 45 to be exact. The print bed heats from room temperature to maximum temperature that fast. With its integrated cable design, the visual look is refined and maintenance is significantly simplified. Before your first print it’s important to also set your offset again. For ABL users this is easy. You can follow 3DMN’s video. If you still use manual bed leveling you will need to carefully re-position the Z endstop so the nozzle stops just above the bed. The distance between the nozzle and the bed should be about 0.1 mm, so you can use a piece of paper for this. However, the adhesive tape that is supposed to fix the cable will come off. In the meantime, good old tape, which was wrapped around the axle, helps out here.

While the spec sheet indicates a max heated bed temp of 80°C, it is actually capable of 120°C, which comes in handy when printing with temperature-sensitive materials. Unfortunately, the bed doesn’t do a great job of temperature dispersion, so it’s cooler along the outer edges, causing adhesion problems with larger objects. The Sidewinder X1 comes with a Volcano hotend. This improves performance when printing fast with a large nozzle size. But when printing PLA, the Volcano can be a bit too much.Use at your own risk! The firmware and Config Files are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. Wondering whether you should get the Artillery Sidewinder 3D printer? In this Artillery Sidewinder X1 review, we go through what you should expect in terms of features, price, performance and quality of prints delivered by the machine. Simplify3D is yet another software option you can use to control the printer. With this, you can easily switch between multiple machines, run pre-print simulations to detect design flaws, build supports automatically or customize them, and tinker with a plethora of professional tools and advanced options to fine-tune the machine.

In this Artillery Sidewinder X1 review, we’ll omit the basics that we’ve come to expect in modern 3D printers. Instead, we’ll be looking at what makes this 3D printer stand out. It’s not the most elegant solution (dual end stops would be better), but it functions fine for a printer at this price point, and you really can’t expect much more. There’s no profiles for PETG or any other materials included – and with this “improved” hotend, the printer caps out at around 240, or at most 250°C before the PTFE starts to get damaged. In addition, both Z-axis spindles are connected to a loose or non-adaptable GT2 toothed belt, which is intended to enable synchronous up and down movement. The two Z-axes are connected with a toothed belt (GT2). On my Sapphire Plus I installed a pair and they work great. I didn’t need them, but I had them around and just used them. After installing I noticed a little improvement on the layer quality on the Z axis. Considering these are pretty cheap, I think the jaw couplers with rubber interface are a recommended Sidewinder X1 upgrade for anyone. Quality control is not the best, and some parts are not assembled correctly (Z rod couplers, motor pulleys). if using mosquito or dragon, you will need to print an endstop extender, link posted above. Follow Thingiverse instructions for attaching. The Artillery Sidewinder X1 is a sturdy desktop FFF/FDM 3D printer that is supplied in a semi-assembled state and has to be leveled manually. It offers a large build volume, wide material compatibility, and a handful of essential features for a streamlined printing experience. Besides, it is equipped with a powerful direct drive Titan extruder and a heated build plate. The Sidewinder becomes really straightforward and easy to use once it is assembled and calibrated properly. It has some flaws in its design, but overall brings good value for its money. This 3D printer would be good for both entry-level and experienced makers as well as some small businesses because it can print dimensionally accurate hard-to-break parts. You can use the Sidewinder X1 to print uniquely designed household items, tabletop figurines and miniatures, cosplay accessories, props, and much more.

The default Artillery settings will work fine for beginners, though. The only thing you may have to do is reduce the print speed for better quality. It’s tempting to reduce printing time, but large prints will wobble much more at high speeds and the printer performs much better at low speeds. Technology The power supply is passive, but considering that it only powers the printer hardware and hotend, it’s more than enough. The heatbed runs on mains power (in my case 220V) and it’s powered by the integrated Solid State Relay. To end this Artillery Sidewinder X1 review, if you print a lot, print with flexible filament sometimes, and don’t want to tinker later, the printer will be great for you. In my opinion, the only really worthy alternative to the Artillery Sidewinder X1 at the moment is the Creality3D CR-10 V2. However, the printer does not have a direct drive extruder. For software, Artillery is providing Repetier host with profiles for Slic3r. If you’re not familiar, Repetier host is a really weird thing. It’s made by a German company and basically, it’s another UI on top of your slicer, so it provides a consistent top-level UI and then passes on the actual slicing to Slic3r, PrusaSlicer, Cura, etc. I find that concept super inefficient to use, since you still have to jump into the slicer itself to change any settings, but you’re like, not actually supposed to then use the slicer directly, but instead do your object arrangement and gcode saving through Repetier Host. Maybe it makes sense if you also use their Repetier Server print server, but as is, I would prefer to use any other UI instead of the Repetier Host one.
