About this deal

Eventually they realized their ways and that Jordy was a selfish asshole. Other than that, I really enjoyed Maya and Skye falling for one another. Never would have thought that these two would move past frenemies. It definitely helped that they realized the truth of their relationship with him and moved on. Of course, I wanted all kinds of confrontation and revenge but I'm okay with what I got. Oh my gosh, Only Mostly Devastated is SO GREAT! Funny and sweet and super gay, fans of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda are going to be all over it. It’s totally swoon-worthy!” —Cale Dietrich, author of The Love Interest

Only Mostly Devastated is one of these feel-good, wonderful contemporaries I’ll still think about fondly in a couple months and years, I think. This story perfectly juggled with all the emotions I’m looking for in a contemporary: endearing, heartwarming, swoony moments, friendships and romance, family and heartbreaking moments, too. Maya dated Jordy two-years ago and the break-up was rough. He cheated on her for months before ultimately calling it quits suddenly when she called him out on his behavior. I really, really enjoyed this!! I do wish we had gotten a little more show and a little less tell in regards to the romance between Ollie and Will, but I still really enjoyed this and I could NOT put it down. Not only was it super fun and romance-y, but it also had some depth and really took a good look at grief and I liked it a lot. I cannot wait to read what Sophie Gonzalez puts out next! Welcome! We’re Marie (she/her) and Nyx (she/her), two sisters screaming about books at each other and now with you, too. We love books, traveling and we’re both marshmallows, basically. Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a look around and let’s chat! A reality show full of exes, a cheating red flag of a man and two girls falling for each other in the process? Now, the messy part mentioned before turns everything interesting. Because sure, on one hand it’s not great for Ollie to date someone who’s in closet when he’s been out I don't think you want to finish that sentence." It was att, storming through the stream of students, closely followed by Darnell and a nervous-looking Will. Two years ago, Maya dumped her boyfriend Jordy after she found out that he had been cheating on her with a girl named Skye. Now most people have an ex who did them wrong, but very few have one who then becomes a world-famous heartthrob after their sister marries a European prince. Capitalizing on his fame and public reputation, a new reality show called “Second Chance Romance” is giving Jordy and his many exes a chance to reconnect Bachelor-style to see if Jordy can find “the one that got away.” Maya agrees to go on the show, hoping to make it to the final and publicly humiliate Jordy. What Maya never considered was Skye…. its your typical YA realistic fiction about teenagers and crushes and school and family. i think the story does a decent job at representing the LGBT community, normalising being plus-sized, combating harmful stereotypes, expressing grief and the loss of a loved one, and showing the joys of liking someone. Arriving at the mansion the two girls learn an even more horrible truth, they're being forced to room together. They're quite literally bunk-mates.

I was just browsing Barnes & Noble one day, spending all of my gift cards and money because it was the after Christmas sale which is my favorite time of year, and I randomly stumbled upon this book, said "Oh, this cover is cute, and hey, it reminds me of Taylor Swift!" and then bought it. I'd vaguely heard of it before and it sounded really fun, which it was! Maya: I mean, her plan to bring Jordy down was pretty good, but at the start she immediately was so awful to the other girls, and that got her a no from me. Possibly the best thing about this book, was these two characters: Perrie and Issac. Perrie was supportive, she was nice, I would love to be friends with her if she was real. I LOVE HER. And Issac! He’s so sweet. The plot was just the perfect slice of life - it had laughs, tears and made me want to hug the main characters and never let them go. Sophie Gonzales is a YA contemporary author. She graduated from the University of Adelaide and lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she currently works as a psychologist. When she isn't writing, she can be found ice skating, performing in musical theatre, and practicing the piano. She is also the author of The Law of Inertia.Alone in here, I could be any of that. I could feel every negative, terrible, aching feeling at once, and I didn't have to be self-conscious about it or try to put on a mask so someone else didn't feel dragged down.” My only slight issues with this story would be that I feel like it may have worked better if the story was actually written as New Adult, or Adult. It could have gone farther in the exploration of the relationships. There can never be enough queer stories about romance—and when they are told with this much heart, humor and a swoon worthy story line, you never want them to end.” —Angelo Surmelis, author of The Dangerous Art of Blending In Thanks for the heads up! I actually removed The House in the Cerulean Sea because it's adult fiction, not YA. LGBT: There are too few LGBT books out there that truly represent what it's like to be LGBT (I am bi, myself). But I absolutely loved the different representations in this book, the closeted, the openly out and the confused. It felt like a very real representation and it really hit home for me over and over again ❤️

the main characters. I love the idea of two girls on a dating show falling for each other instead of the man they're supposed to be chasing, so I was super excited for this romance. However, the main characters literally neither had any personality traits beyond their (justifiable) dislike for the main guy, who is both of their ex-boyfriend. Both characters were SO dry; I couldn't connect to them at *all* because they literally didn't have any discernible personality traits. It was odd!Ollie, our main character, is one of these characters I want to protect and hug and just wonderful. He’s kind and yet socially awkward a tiny little bit, he’s caring and just so relatable in the way he views things and life. He makes mistakes and assumptions and is really far from perfect, but despite his flaws, you just want him to be okay and happy. I really wanted him to be happy.

But if they keep accidentally ripping your heart out over and over again, doesn't mean they're terrible people, but it probably means you're better off getting to a distance where they can't keep doing that. Accidentally or not.” So now, here's one of my biggest issues. None of the characters really stood out much to me, but when they did, I deeply disliked them. There was never a moment I was like "oh my gosh yes, I LOVE this character" but there were moments where I was like "oh my gosh no, I HATE this character" which is not something I want to feel when reading a book, since characters make or break a book for me. Overall, I quite enjoyed this despite some of the flaws I found in it, and it was a nice, cute, fun read to pass the time! Jordy was disgusting. I can smell that man. He’s probably the sort of guy that drenches himself in cologne. All fake smiles and bad attitude. I don’t know if he was based on a real person, but I sure hated him like he was real!

I mean, there was nothing wrong with the rest of the girls, they just all felt like they were here for the ✨man✨. Obviously, it’s mostly visible in regard to Will (his love interest). See, the boys were a summer fling and then it turned out they go to the same school this year. And that fact didn’t make things easier for them, exactly. What it boils down to is that Ollie is out and Will isn’t, and Ollie tries to deal with that but not always in the best ways. Okay. I could do this. This wasn’t a big deal. It was just a guy texting another guy. A guy who knew all my biggest secrets, had spent the better part of seven weeks making out with me, and had Seen. Me. Naked™.
