About this deal

We first see a series of 'talking heads' interviews with individual aged people, who discuss certain events which pertain to what follows - CRUCIALLY however, those interview clips have interspersed amongst them a series of clips of piloted space flight which are just as significant. Cooper/Murph relationship - the key to the whole movie. This may be the best parent/child relationship ever in the movies. I would have been happy if this had just been a movie about them trying to save the farm. Making Murph a girl instead of a boy as in the original script made Coopers' leaving even more poignant. At this point many people mistakenly believe Cooper was in the past. Cooper was no more “in” the past than someone is “in” a house while standing outside and looking through the window. Just like standing outside the house Cooper is outside the three dimensional space in which Murph and everyone but TARS resides in. He is a spectator that can only interact using the one media which transcends space and time, GRAVITY. It is similar to being outside the house, trying to communicate through a closed one way window which cannot be opened. The occupant cannot see or touch you but they hear the banging. Cooper was “banging on the window” with gravity. Cooper is needed for this because he is the one who has a connection with Murph. He can find her and the moment in space time where, from the fifth dimension he is currently in, he can send her the information needed. It is during this scene that Cooper theorizes this whole event and place was crafted not by aliens but by humans, far advanced and evolved, who have mastered space, time and gravity to occupy dimensions outside those currently occupied by man.

Life on Cooper's Farm—Bringing Americana and the grounded nature of a farm to a sci-fi space movie. As with past filmed-on-IMAX Nolan pictures, 'Interstellar' features alternating aspect ratios. The standard 2.39:1 is employed for dialogue-centric scenes, whereas the 1.78:1 ratio is doled out for all the exciting visual stuff. Aspect ratio changes can be jarring, but they aren't here. They flow quite well with the overall pacing of the story, so they're not overtly distracting. The not-so-distant future is dire. Our planet is dying. America is trapped in an increasingly dangerous futuristic Dust Bowl. A blight has taken our crops. One by one the world's major crop species are dying, leaving us hungry and relying on the last sustainable crop, corn. Though, it's just a matter of time before the world is out of food (though, curiously barley-based alcohol seems rather plentiful). What will we do then?In the near future the Earth is suffering from a drought. The “Dust Bowl” that happened in the mid west in the 1930’s has become a worldwide problem. Crops are drying up and huge dust storms are commonplace. Farmer/Engineer Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his family aren’t immune to the climate changes, either. However, it so happens that they discover some sort of code that leads Cooper to the headquarters of NASA. He’s informed that they’re sending a shuttle into space to try and solve the drought on Earth. Cooper, along with a skeleton crew, head off into the bowels of space and head for a wormhole that will allow them to travel beyond our solar system. The odds of survival are slim. Will Cooper and his crew be able to navigate the dangers of space and save the Earth or are they doomed? The Endurance– A look at the spaceship in the film, its resemblance to the International Space Station and a tour of the inside (which looks conspicuously like another we’ve seen before…) Over the past decade and a half Christopher Nolan has established himself as one of the premier Directors. That’s a bold statement as the film industry has a lot of talent out there. Maybe a better phrasing would be “…has established himself as one of the most consistent Directors.” Beginning with Memento in 2000 where we met a man who suffered from short-term memory loss, he helmed the reboot of the Batman franchise. A few billion dollars later he blew our collective minds with the aptly-named Inception. So when it was announced that he’d direct the long-awaited Interstellar, which once had Steven Spielberg’s name attached to it, people took notice. It didn’t hurt the film with a freshly-crowned Oscar winner by the name of Matthew McConaughey in the lead role, either. With Nolan’s attention to detail, his own brother (Jonathan) as co-writer and a top notch cast – the die was set. TARS and CASE– A closer look at the two robots in the film, their “inspiration”, the voices used and the mechanics of both.

Interstellar [2014] (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray) – Warner Bros

The Simulation of Zero-G—Discover the various methods that the filmmakers used to create a zero gravity environment. The Simulation of Zero-G (05:31) - How the filmmakers created the illusion of weightlessness using many techniques that were originally pioneered on 2001: A Space Odyssey. TARS and CASE (09:27) - A detailed look at the two intelligent mobile machines in the film, how they were designed and brought to life for the film. Inside Interstellar– The rest of the segments are all found housed under this umbrella. Totaling just over two hours, these 14 featureless explain pretty much all you’d need to know about the film. Here’s what to expect from each: If Gravity took us into orbit and Sunshine took us to the sun then Interstellar takes us beyond both with wormholes, space anomalies, alien planets and other dimensions

Extras

I first saw this film in the cinema and I've just received and watched the Digibook Blu-ray - Hurray ! Plan A involves solving the physics equations allowing for theoretical manipulation of gravity. This would allow the construction of large space going habitats on Earth’s surface into which the remaining population of Humans could be transported on to another habitable world. To mention cast members would also again invite spoilers, but I do not risk that when I state that the lead actor, Matthew McConaughey, has once again proved himself to have few peers (let alone betters), with a performance in which he is clearly fully-immersed to ensure that we are not only captivated by his character but also properly appreciate the storyline and the significant elements within - watch and learn, just like him in 'Dallas Buyers' or the more recent TV series 1 'True Detective'.

Interstellar (2014) - Blu-ray Interstellar (2014) - Blu-ray

The Ranger and the Lander (12:20) - The design and construction of the Ranger spacecraft and the Lander spacecraft with another walk-through from production designer Nathan Crowley. The conclusions that are reached can appear hokey on the surface. There's an "I've seen this somewhere else," vibe near the end. But, with Nolan's keen directorial eye, focused on the wonder of practical special effects, and a dominating performance from McConaughey, 'Interstellar' overcomes most of its faults and satisfies in the end. Remember the beginning as you continue to watch and things may be clearer and without repeat viewing !!!The disc includes a great set of extras that reveal all that went into making such an ambitious film. This three disc set contains two of the discs, each containing a movie (the Ultra HD on one and the Blu-ray on the other). The special features are all found on the third disc. Across All Dimensions and Time– A pretty comprehensive look at the design and thought that went into the Tesseract that played a major part in the third act of the film. The Spacesuits (04:31) - The design and construction of the film's spacesuits is covered along with the challenges of acting in them.
