About this deal

I said to my best friend that reading this felt like reading The Hunger Games or other YA Dystopians with a lovestory - so much anguish and heartwrenching, so much investment. Those same feelings I've been missing in all the usual lit fic I read. Set amongst the snow-covered mountains of the Austrian Alps, Midnight in the Snow is the story of a forbidden attraction that will reveal long-buried secrets, f rom Sunday Times bestselling author of Christmas at Tiffany's , Karen Swan. But everything changes when Cory is found dead and his widow needs answers. Clover makes a promise to find out the truth about what happened the day his life fell apart, turning her attention to the man responsible, disgraced surfing champion Kit Foley. Rejected by the sport he loves, he’s starting over as a snowboarder in the Austrian Alps. Kit wants nothing to do with the film but his new sponsor has other ideas. Soon Clover and her team are shadowing him on the slopes and in the chalet.

Some might be put off by the extent to which the story extended itself past romance. It had so much love in it, don't get me wrong—the love of friends, of family, of persevering, but romantic love factored in quite a bit less than I was expecting. This is easily another of Karen Swan's best books and I know I said that recently about The Secret Path. This is definitely an author going from strength to strength and so long as she keeps writing books like these then I will be one incredibly happy reader!A volte forse confondiamo vincitori ed eroi. Non è così. Anche loro commettono errori, come chiunque altro”. She's just finished one where accolades have been showered upon her, covering the story of a talented surfer, Cory, whose career was ruined by the actions of a competitor in one of the championships. In a search to find answers, Clover uncovered something she wasn’t expecting to find. There’s a lesson in that for us, too.

This opinion is brought to you by someone notorious for disliking romance, so be prepared to add a star or two if you're into this sappy stuff. :) The sport side of things did not interest me a bit, so the fact that I held on to it all through this story and was still entertained speaks volumes about the character relationships. The dynamics were really interesting and, even though I could pretty much guess where everyone was going to end up, I enjoyed the way it played out. But also when they're not together in a scene the book is still unputdownable, there is no such thing as unnecessary fillers inbetween, everything is used to propel the story. The setting in the Alps is beautifully atmospheric and subtle, yet so important for the vibe, loved it.

Christmas Gifts

My best friend and I have a tradition going on that we read a cheesy, often also boring christmassy book together - like those really lame christmas hallmark So colour me surprised, when I start reading Midnight in the Snow, expecting that kinda book (shallow opinion based on coverdesign, I know, I KNOW) AND JUST. CAN. NOT. STOP. READING.
