About this deal

Even when nothing major was happening, the way the descriptions were written kept me interested, and I can say with all honesty, that I never felt bored while reading the book. As I said earlier, the book has a really fast pace, so that probably helped as well. She’ll have to make a choice. Kill the most feared male on the continent or stay and let a forbidden bond take root. But what will happen when he discovers her secret? I'm not talking about smut, mind it. I was glad, for one, that even if there's some action, but it's the behind the scene kind. It totally fits the novel, and it's not relevat to the story. It took me a little to convince myself to add it to my tbr, because, let's be honest, the current one doesn't do it justice and it almost made me wanna pull a Kaz Brekker on my own eyeballs. Trigger Warnings: War, Violence, Slavery, Torture, Death, Blood, Starvation, Kidnapping, Injury, SA (no explicit descriptions only mentioned), Loss of a Parent

Thought I’d dive into the Kindle Unlimited world for my next review! I was mostly inspired by a single reel posted by J.E. Reed: However, the reason I’m rating it low is that this book is desperately in need of an editor. There were so many errors that it consistently brought me out of moments in the book. There is a scene between a villain fae and his commander that was super unnecessary and felt like not trusting the readers to connect the dots. There were some errors in the sentences and the pacing didn’t make sense. Was there an editor involved in this? Because there are full paragraphs that should've been deleted. Pretty good world building but could have used more of it. I don’t fully understand the magic system. Nor do I understand the extent of the magic. It seems like some are more powerful than others but it’s never explained why or how. Are they born more powerful? Can you train to be more powerful? Can someone have multiple powers? What are all the powers in this world? Why do some people have a animal shifting powers and other don’t?

Arianna goes through major character development. She goes from hiding and surviving as a slave to fighting viciously for those she loves. She learns to accept her magic and use it rather than hide it. I'm happy that so many other reviewers really enjoyed this read, but I do think comparing it as "the next" ACOTAR set it up for failure with readers coming in with those higher expectations. General Rion is ruthless and commanding. He relishes in his reputation as The Demon-a vile creature incapable of love or compassion. With a secret no one can know, Arianna strives to placate him while plotting her escape, but sometimes fate has other plans and rumors can't always be trusted. When 18-year-old Arianna is stolen from her family and sold into slavery, she spends months disguised as a half-breed Fae struggling against the devastations of a decade-long war. But she never expected to find herself at the mercy of her country's greatest enemy. Thank you to the author, J E Reed, for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

When eighteen-year-old Arianna is stolen from her family and sold into slavery, she spends months disguised as a half-breed Fae struggling against the devastations of a decade-long war. But she never expected to find herself at the mercy of her country’s greatest enemy. Let me start by saying that if you like romance, fantasy, enemies to lovers and “you touch her/him, you die”, this book is for you! She'll have to make a choice. Kill the most feared male on the continent or stay and let a forbidden bond take root. But what will happen when he discovers her secret?

With that ending, I know there'll be at least one more book, and I need it badly, and fast! I need more of Arianna and Rion and I need to know what happens next and how all the dots are connected. The world-building could use a little polishing, but I enjoyed myself and will definitely keep and eye out for this author in the future. General Rion is ruthless and commanding. He relishes in his reputation as The Demon-a vile creature incapable of love or compassion. With a secret no one can know, Arianna strives to placate him while plotting her escape, but sometimes fate has other plans and rumors can’t always be trusted.

She felt like every colour, constantly spinning, never settling in one place, because this feeling, this love was too strong to be confined to a single colour. It was infinite and ever-growing, and she'd never tire of it." Finally the slavery aspect. The couple meet when the female MC is the MMC’s slave. At the beginning he doesn’t make a strong stance of being anti slave at all despite us later finding out he’s a lord and could have been fighting harder for that instead of just sneaking his slaves out. It feels like we’re supposed to excuse him and his family having slaves cause “they treat them well” which will make you hate any main character. I found it hard to love this MMC a lot because HE AND HIS FAMILY HAD SLAVES and wasn’t more vocal about abolishing it, rather just making sure they were treated nicely.THANKFULLY, I'd add, because The Divine and the Cursed is actually avwell written and interesting little gem that will definitely surprise its reader. I loved the development from Adrianna she learned to be a fighter and protected what was hers. I can’t wait to see how this story continues now that there is a new war on the rise. Perfect for fans of Beauty & the Beast, Romeo & Juliet, A Curse So Dark & Lonely, A Court of Mist and Fury, and The Cruel Prince. I was convinced to read this because a TikTok edit talking about a "touch her and you die" enemies-to-lovers dynamic with a "PUT. HER. DOWN" scene by her enemy so he could rescue her. It makes sense in context... but I'm sad to say that the edit was more exciting than the scene itself... or any following scene after it. I will say that I thought the story was much better than the cover 😬

Some of the names, oh boy it was a little hard to pronounce, but that´s just because Irish is such a hard language! The story follows our reluctant heroine, Arianna, who, though pushed to safety by her friend in the middle of a war, was captured regardless and sold into slavery. For the last year and a half, Arianna has done whatever she could to survive, including keeping herself out of the males' beds, by disguising herself as a half-breed Fae. Enter Rion, The Demon, the most ruthless, most feared male in all of Alastriona whose vile, abhorrent magic was enough to condemn him from birth, who now has her life in his hands. Regarding the "spice" level, I don't require all of my books, especially fantasy reads, to be "spicy," but there are certain assumptions one comes with when there's an age-gap, enemies-to-lovers, fantasy captive romance. That said, even though I abhor a closed-door romance, an intentionally light "spice" level doesn't inherently take away from the story unless there's also a "light" amount of sexual tension and chemistry in the characters... which was unfortunately my experience with this story, especially because they fell soooo fast. The premise, world building and magic in this book are incredible! I really enjoyed all those aspects and seeing how the story unfurled! The writing and pacing I felt were good as well.Speaking of bad communication most of it is because the MMC DOESN’T TALK. He has very limited dialogue most of the book and not in the “Rowan in heir of fire Sarah j Maas” quiet tension but like this man just does not talk at all. To the point where it feels like the female MC is living with an angry animal. It doesn’t feel like they have a gradual falling in love either, the switch just flips without her knowing THAT much about him (cause he doesn’t really talk) and that was hard to swallow.
