About this deal

But for our initial set-up we connected only the HDMI output to our TV. With both bar and TV supporting eARC (the enhanced Audio Return Channel), we could then play in stereo or surround from TV to soundbar. At Peter Tyson we pride ourselves on prompt, efficient delivery. Please note that the daily cut off time for all next day delivery services is 3pm. What the 250 gets very right is the confident way it rides the line between keeping things engaging in the treble and pushing too far into overbrightness, something it never did, even when pressed to pumping levels, even with our Dion torture test, where the overbright recorded vocal was nicely tamed, and the band filled out by that 50Hz notch up, one of the best deliveries of this difficult mix we’ve heard from any system, in fact. As with the Home Sound Bar 550, we haven't given the Home 150 speaker a full Tom's Guide review just yet. But based on what I've heard from this compact speaker so far, it sounds like a worthy challenger to the top-ranking best smart speakers around, and we're planning a full rated review to follow shortly. We’ve also seen (see Home 150 review) how Denon has rejigged two of its soundbars: the DHT-S716H (formerly the HEOS Bar) and the DHT-S516H (formerly the HEOS HS2, as well as the wireless active DSW-1H subwoofer, formerly the HEOS SUB. You can pair a couple of Home 150s to one of these soundbars (or a soundbar and subwoofer)

With the rear output firing more against a wall or corner, the uneven anomalies increased and the bass softened, but the sound became even more huge. It also retained its impressive sense of space. On a first-take bootleg of The Beatles Thank You Girl, the ping-pong left-channel drums were pushed by the angled drivers to a position wider than the box itself. With these three strong, musical and versatile smart speakers, together with a heap of existing HEOS family members, Denon’s Home series looks to be a true contender for your multiroom dollar if the cabinet design and pricing appeals. All three performed well, with the Home 250 proving a particular sonic sweetspot. Immerse yourself in wireless sound. Just connect a pair of Denon Home 150’s with a DHT-S716H sound bar and a DSW-1H subwoofer to create a full surround 5.1 home theatre setup. You might do adopt this arrangement if you took advantage of the ability to stereo pair two Home 350s.) From directly in front, bass frequencies sounded fairly balanced in the region above 100Hz, whereas from elsewhere in our room the combination of both bass drivers caused a frequency dip up to 140Hz, causing the separation of sound we were hearing. Different positioning and room shapes will change this unpredictably. The Denon Home 150 is a small speaker so in an ideal world, you'll need to pair it up with another or even a subwoofer and soundbar to get a truly room filling experience. Despite that, its small form works well in a living room, kitchen or even bathroom. The smallest system speaker Denon´s Home rage, the Home 150, is the most compact design vying for the favour of design-oriented buyers. Its fabric covering and rounded shape add a touch of ´hygge´ Scandinavian design to any home. Those who value acoustic virtues immediately recognise the differences to the larger speakers of the range: The Denon Home 150 is in fact a 2-way speaker without stereo virtualization.

There's also AirPlay 2 and voice assistant support. The latter is just as responsive as you'd expect from a dedicated solution, so it's useful. Being able to set up your own playlists across multiple services as well as opting to import music from your home network or an external hard drive is also useful and pretty simple to do. The Home 150 weighs 1.7kg – fractionally less than the Sonos One despite being taller (187 x 120 x 120 HWD, mm). It’s a fair-looking effort in the sense that it’s not intended to grab your attention. It’s the audio that does the Home 150’s talking. Features The reflective top surface illuminates as you approach to show more controls: three ‘input selection’ touch buttons, play/pause and volume control. Again, simple and intuitive.Playing solo, each Home 150 is an impressive little speaker – they’re mono, having a single 25mm tweeter and an 89mm woofer, but with scale and weight beyond the expectations of their size, a remarkably rich sound, even out in free space on a sturdy stand or table. Ultimately in size and power they have their limits, of course, but that point is impressively loud for a speaker so small.

With HEOS Built-in, every room in your home can have its own sound. Or, group additional Denon Home speakers, sound bars, network player or AV receivers to fill the house with the same song, using your home network. With HEOS Built-in, multi-room means multiple options. A GREAT COMPOSITION. Down at the bottom is a small status light. When in operation it’s blue but changes colour based on the action such as updating (orange) or Bluetooth pairing (green). The intensity of the light can be changed in the HEOS app. The Denon Home 150 can be used as a stereo pair, or as rear surrounds for the Denon Home Sound bar 550 to create a 5.1 system. Sound Quality Our Installation Service only includes connecting to existing points and fixings. This does not include installing or moving plumbing, connection points or electrics. Installing new points or moving existing points is the customer’s responsibility we can recommend local tradesmen however this will be at the customer’s expense and we not accept any liability for their work.

Sony WH-CH520 review

We spent a morning streaming Tidal music via the HEOS app; at times it sounded a little flat, but given a good mix the bar could open up some nice musical pictures, and played musically enough to be enjoyed, if not to truly inspire. The Denon Home range uses the HEOS app for streaming and multiroom, and given that HEOS also appears in an extensive range of products from Denon and Marantz, these three speakers can become part of a multiroom system far beyond this Denon Home range. Not so the Home 150 and 250, which each had connection issues, the app failing to find either of them repeatedly from either an iPhone or an iPad Pro, so that we had to turn to the suggested alternatives, which involve either WPS button-press connection to your router, or giving the Home 150 an Ethernet connection via the supplied cable. Play a well-produced classic like Alan Parson Project’s The Raven and the 250 delivered a fine combination of nice warm bass line (coincidentally right on its preferred A) together with an excellent portrayal of the acoustic around the minimal drums of the second verse, the real and synthesised vocals kept clear and layered above, and the angled tweeters delivering the cymbal crashes in their stereo locations even when listening from a distance.

Bass is powerful even at lower volumes during Foo Fighters' All My Life and Muse's Hysteria, which crashes through the room with aplomb. A single Home 150 speaker sounds narrow in terms of the soundstage it produces, but pair it to a second and performance opens up with the kind of soundstage that many would be surprised at if they're more used to listening on just a single speaker. To pair and listen in stereo, group the two speakers together in the Rooms tab on the HEOS app and then tap the Stereo Pair slider. To ensure reliable, undamaged delivery of televisions - TVs will now be shipped on a pallet service with DX Freight, TNT, or Epic Logistics, rather than with our standard next working day courier. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) With over 110 years of experience, in the home and studio, Denon are a world-class audio brand. The Home 150 uses a 2-way speaker system to deliver a broad spectrum of sound, with excellent detail throughout. Powered by an efficient Class-D amplifier, the speaker produces a punchy sound with the smoothness you’d expect from Denon.

A GREAT COMPOSITION.

Although a relatively basic affair, the app makes the Denon Home 150's plethora of supported streaming services easily accessible (Image credit: Future) Denon Home 150: Sound quality The Denon Home 150 sounds reasonably meaty too. The soundstage is pretty wide for such a device, although we did wonder what it would be like with two speakers. Besides punchy bass at higher volumes, you also get smooth mids and relaxed trebles. A bit of zing would have been nice here at the top end, but crank up the volume and you'll look past that. You can also pair them into stereo – still more impressive for music this way, with far more power and energy, and a full stereo spread of music. And if you’re adding Denon’s wireless subwoofer to your TV system, then you could at any time choose to pair that sub to with one Home 150, or with the stereo pair, to fill out this sound still further. Set-up of the bar uses the HEOS app; this was straightforward enough, and once we had the bar on our Wi-Fi network (Ethernet is also available) we were prompted to make the usual firmware updates –“multiple updates”, it said, warning it could take a while. We left it while the updates were running. Forgot about it, in fact, until later that evening when playing a music video for a guest, playing it loud, thoroughly enjoying it, we realised it was coming from the bar. It sounded exceptional. ‘Go bar!’, we thought. These range from the massive market-leading multichannel AV receivers made by both companies down through high-quality stereo amplifiers and on to neat little smart amps like the Marantz M-CR612 (known as the Melody X in some markets) which we had under review last issue, and which was still in residence when these Home units arrived. And, of course, any of the original HEOS range, which includes the HEOS Amp and the streaming add-on, the HEOS Link.
