Gen NUCs are equipped with a Micro SDXC Slot. Unfortunately, there is no driver available for ESXi at the moment so it's not possible to use the SD Card slot.

If using USB flash drive for the BIOS update or recovery,format it to the FAT32 format. A USB on the NTFS formatwill not work. iv. Intel reasonably believes that suspension of the Cloud Services is necessary to protect Intel’s network or other Intel companies;The Coffee Lake NUC is delivered as a barebones unit. This means there’s no operating system, memory or an SSD drive installed. You’ll need to buy them separately and install yourself or buy from a vendor that does it for you. It’s not that difficult to install the components yourself though. You will need to bring a DDR4 SODIMM memory module or actually ideally two of them for dual-channel operation. Furthermore you’ll need some form of storage. The NUC8i5BEH model has a slot for a 2.5″ SATA drive, whereas the more compact NUC8i5BEK model does not. Both models have an M.2 slot that can be used with NVMe or SATA SSD drives. On NUC8i5BEH you can even install both an M.2 and a SATA drive simultaneously. Since the mainboard is the same on the NUC, the NUC8i5BEK also has the connectors for the SATA drive, but there’s absolutely no space in the case for one. Waiver. No waiver of any provision of this Agreement will be valid unless in a writing signed by an authorized representative of the waiving party that specifies the waived provision. That signed waiver will not constitute a waiver of any other provision. A party’s failure or delay in enforcing any provision will not operate as a waiver. System and Maximum TDP is based on worst case scenarios. Actual TDP may be lower if not all I/Os for chipsets are used. NUCs have very low power consumption. The NUC8i7BEH with an M.2 NVMe draws about 25W. The performance of a single NUC is sufficient to run a small home lab including a vCenter Server and 3 ESXi hosts. It's a great system to take along for demonstration purposes. The i7 is even faster than the Hades Canyon and the i5 is, thanks to its quad-core CPU, on a par.

If you make a custom configuration (which I do almost automatically when I set up a new NUC; the quiet/balanced/cool settings are junk AFAIAC), be careful with the Minimum Duty Cycle. Many of these blowers are designed to be operated at 25% duty cycle or better. As you take the minimum below this level, you will reach a point where the blower will struggle to maintain its speed. This can result in the blower stalling and hearing a whooshing sound as the blower is recovered. In general, I have not taken any of the blowers below 20% (but I do regularly use 20% as my minimum). Embedded Options Available

Ok, last week I was looking at the i3 Bean Canyon NUC and now it’s time to do the same for the i5 model. The model I have under review here is the NUC8i5BEK that’s powered by a Coffee Lake CPU, which is the last 14 nm CPU Intel is producing before moving onwards to 10 nm manufacturing process. The model I have here is the compact version without a slot for a 2.5″ drive. I won’t write a separate NUC8i5BEH review as the only difference to this model is the larger case that has a bit more space for the 2.5″ drive. The same mainboard and CPU is used for both models. Term. This Agreement begins upon Your acceptance of its terms and continues until terminated under Sections 3 or 10.2. Restrictions. As you can see, on the other side there’s a much larger diameter fan (80 mm in this NUC) than previously was used on the Core NUCs. This is good news because large fans can move more air without spinning so fast. This in turn means less noise and noise is what some might remember the previous generation Kaby Lake NUCs from.

If You are not the final manufacturer or vendor of an Intel-based product incorporating or designed to incorporate the Software, You may transfer a copy of the Software, including any Derivatives (and related end user documentation) created by You to Your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Original Device Manufacturer (ODM), distributors, or system integration partners (“Your Partner”) for use in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Agreement, provided Your Partner agrees to be fully bound by the terms hereof and provided that You will remain fully liable to Intel for the actions and inactions of Your Partner(s).
