About this deal

All girls should have a uniform top and bottom. These can be worn for unit meetings, days out and events where a formal uniform is needed. Now, this is how you know you’ve made it. I’ll start off with being awarded as Seconder, which meant that out of your entire six your Sixer rated you the most. Or you were just best friends but that isn’t really the point. You were essentially second in command and if your Sixer wasn’t in one week you would fill in temporarily until the next week when they returned. To minimise costs for families and remove the need to buy a new shirt when changing sections, a single style and colour of shirt has been sourced, which can be worn across all girl sections. The traditional way to attach badges to uniform is to sew them on.It’sthe cheapest way to do it and will never leave a mark on your uniform when you take the badge off to put on a camp blanket. And it’s not as hard as it sounds!

I know I said nothing tops the feelings of leading a Brownie through the arch but THIS right here is the most sense of pride I had ever felt. You get chosen to lead your group holding up the flag through town to the church, usually on Remembrance Day. You are given the utmost amount of trust to hold the flag, despite it being so heavy we probably shouldn’t have held it on our own but regardless it was YOU that was chosen. 9. Group holidays Girls can accessorise with additional items from our range - for example, a tabardor baseball cap- but these are not part of the uniform. Where to put Rainbow badges The Peak Award provides opportunities for Rangers to further develop skills in a range of areas, including leadership, community action, and advocacy. Although slightly over the top, if you collected enough badges as your time as just a Brownie and there was no longer space, you will have had a blanket. Specifically, a blanket that your mum sewed the badges onto one by one and you brought on every single family holiday to flex.Macpac has a loyalty group in all Macpac stores that entitles all members of GirlGuiding New Zealand 30% off RRP on Macpac branded products. If pledging your allegiance to God and the Queen wasn’t enough this song had you skipping about singing: “We’re joined together in our wish to try to do our best.” What a tune, right? A little bit pledge of allegiance vibes, yeah, but who cares – it’s Brownies! 2. Walking through an archway to become an official Brownie In working towards this award, Rangers will develop leadership, teamwork, communication, and life skills, and experience the enjoyment and satisfaction of reaching goals. Something I think most girls who were Brownies can relate to is the weird obsession with the Queen being an underlying theme in absolutely everything we did. If it wasn’t your Brownie promise it was definitely making sure you knew the words to the “God Save the Queen” ready for church the next morning ahead of the parade, because if you mumbled and didn’t know the words – everybody would know about it. 7. Leaders being named after owls It’s more than likely at least one girl in your friendship will have been in the girl guides, and will have a story to tell no matter how long they were in the Brownies for. You’re a Brownie for life, not just for your childhood. You make life-long friends and complete various tasks to fill your Brownie sash. Or, if you’re that little bit extra, blanket (there was always one).

All girls should have a uniform top and bottom chosen from the Brownie uniform range. These can be worn for unit meetings, trips and events where formal uniform is needed. It is very possible the promise has changed since I was a Brownie but nonetheless the theme of the Queen being our saviour is apparent. You had to promise to do your best, stay true to yourself, to help others and to serve the Queen and community and to keep the Brownie Guide Law. The law was actually pretty cute and set a pathway for thousands of girls across the world: “A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.” Respect to that. Good values. A Ranger completes a few different activities to enable Leaders to get to know them as well as introduce them to the Ranger programme and rangatahi in the Unit. Once they have completed these activities a Ranger Promise Ceremony takes place and they receive their Promise Badge. Whānui badges encourage rangatahi to look wider than the Brownie section. They include badges that may be local initiatives right through to badges that are international initiatives driven by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. I still find this bizarre to this day. Albeit at my Brownies we always called our leaders by their first name because the owl thing just never worked but all my friends at different units would refer to their leaders as Brown Owl, Snowy Owl, and Tawny Owl. Why? I have absolutely zero clue. The Gold Special Activity is a chance for you to work with new people, try something you’ve never done before, or accomplish something that will extend and develop you as a person.

If rangatahi have moved up from Guides to Rangers they will have completed the Guide Ranger Link badge. This badge is designed to introduce the Guides to Rangers as part of their transition to the new section. Community Action is volunteering; it’s about making a positive contribution or change. It further builds on Rangers volunteering with extended practical action in their community. Promise badges-These should be worn on the badge sash or worn on the left-hand side of their uniform, closest to their heart. Within Guides rangatahi are divided into smaller groups called Patrols. Older Guides lead these groups. The leader is called a Patrol Leader and their helper is called the Assistant Patrol Leader.Your sash was bound to fill up anyways with the size of some of those badges but to go that extra mile and buy a blanket AND fill it with badges? Congrats, that’s fame. If they have moved up from Pippins to Brownies they will have completed the Pippin Brownie Link badge. This badge is designed to introduce the Pippins to Brownies as part of their transition to the new section.

Leadership is a personal journey. This badge will help Rangers explore the six leadership mindsets to grow in their leadership practice, skills, knowledge, and confidence. The 12×12 Challenge is an opportunity for Rangers to try new activities, learn new things and HAVE FUN! Each year there are different events that take place that a Guide may get a badge for their participation. This might include a day event or Community Action Project. The Brownie Programme structure is based around the opportunity to gain three Koru Badges. These badges are the progression milestones in the Brownie Programme. The requirements for each badge are slightly different but include: Sunshine Unit badges, Discover badges, Interest badges, Whānui badges, Leadership activities and Guiding Events. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Ranger/Ranger in Leadership who has completed her Peak Award, to enable or assist her to attend a course, event or training (either in New Zealand or overseas) that will extend her experience or horizons.

6. Having the national anthem installed in your brain

Your Red Leadership Badge is your opportunity to further develop, extend and practise your leadership in an area of your choosing. Promise badges- Rainbows should always wear their Promise badge on the left-hand side, so it sits close to their heart.
