I remember making those paper briquettes as a child, when the whole family were pressed into service, tearing up the bundles of newspapers and adding to large barrels of water, what a mess! We had one of those briquet makers many years ago when we used to have free newspapers regularly posted.

I am looking at making paper briquettes, I have seen some on youtube which use a bottle jack, but I don’t have one available. You can't put it on an already burning hot fire, you have to let it burn right down before refilling or you get flash back! I've never been a fan of throwing straight paper in the wood burner as it leaves loads of ash so needs cleaning out three times as often. However, the 'logs' are much less dense and burn faster than those from the Paper Log Briquette Maker or the Logsaver, so they don't make such good fuel, but they are useful for getting the fire going or for mixing in with larger logs when the fire needs a bit of a boost. When using our press the pulp won't leak through the bottom so no need to line the base (as is required in other forms of presses).
