Well, for many of us here in the United States we just celebrated Thanksgiving. If you are anything like me, you are still recovering from the incredible feast of yesterday. It is truly one of my favorite times of the year. While many people are excited about the turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings, Thanksgiving is about much more than that for me. It is an opportunity to reflect, assess my life, and offer gratitude for my many blessings. I am not saying that you should not look forward to a big dinner and seeing all your loved ones. However, I am saying that we must embrace gratitude as a way of life and a state of being. I hope this piece will resonate with you and remind you of the power of gratitude. Honestly, I tried to push a lot of things out of my mind and postpone them to some date in the future. Unfortunately, denial did not make the desire go away and I could no longer ignore it. I knew that I had to take action and I knew that it was not going to be easy. On the other hand, I knew that if I would act on the desire then I would inevitably see breakthroughs in my life. At this point, I had to make the decision to choose courage. We often talk about courage but I am not sure that many people know what courage is. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the audacity to unleash faith in the midst of uncertainty and fear. As I was forced out of my comfort zone, I am finding myself living in the great unknown. I am a thinker and strategist that likes to have every detail figured out. While this serves me greatly in business, I am learning more and more than it does not serve me well in moments of transition and transformation. I can either allow the great unknown to cripple me. Or I can allow the great unknown to unleash the force of courage in my life. I have chosen courage and it has opened my eyes to new frontiers and new horizons in my life. Courage is the currency of change. Never limit thanksgiving to a day. While we carve out the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving in the United States, I do not want you to think that Thanksgiving is simply limited to a day on a calendar. I discovered decades ago that Thanksgiving is a state of consciousness and a daily choice that must make in our lives. Honestly, if you are not intentional, we live in a world that will program you to be cynical and pessimistic. Cultivating gratitude is something that you have to intentionally do every single day of your life. People told stories of how my life and work have impacted them in a big way. It was humbling to me and a reminder that my life is not my own. I always want to live a life that keeps giving. I understand that my life is a seed. My decision to mature determines the multiplicity of that seed in the world. Ultimately, I hope that more than my words, accolades or talents, I hope that I will be remembered for leaving a mark on the world that will never be erased. When you live a life that keeps giving you know you are living your greatest life. Make a decision that this year will be different. The greatest day of my life was the day that I decided to live a greater life. No difficulty or disappointment is more powerful than a decision.
