To take Win as an example, she’s aware from past experience that she is not the best at confrontation because she often loses her temper and says more than she means to, so she feels that it’s best not to confront these powerful executives who her career depends on. She’s afraid that the risks will outweigh the benefits of keeping quiet. But maybe a different woman in her position would feel differently about it and would have less concerns about being confrontational and feel better equipped to deal with the fallout, so we would give that person different advice. What Win really needs is an active support system and to be part of a wider community of people she can discuss these issues with in a non-confrontational setting, as well as a way to channel her frustration into her work rather than letting it bubble up in messy arguments.
