THE AMITYVILLE LEGACY is a very low-budget movie from directors Dustin Ferguson and Mike Johnson. I had previously watched DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT 2 and was surprised to see how much I enjoyed it even with its various flaws. I went into this movie with very low expectations because, well, let's be honest, the AMITYVILLE series has been an awful one and there have been countless bad movies that just borrowed the title to try and make people rent/buy it. With the four sisters, we have Jennii who is introduced to us drinking and driving. She's witty, funny and just a bad ass. She doesn't like kids or the zoo. I love her look throughout the film, from her hair to her clothes she just stood out. Jennii Caroline did a great job bringing a lot of charisma to the character and delivering the dialogue perfectly. Julia is the more serious sister that takes care of her brother and sisters after her mother's death. Julia Farrell (Silent Night, Bloody Night 2) did a fine job working with the rest of the cast. She didn't overshadow anyone even though she is kind of the main character. She definitely gave a sister vibe and had a great connection with the other three ladies playing her sisters. Then we have Breana who is a bit of a wild child. Sleeping with her boyfriend under her father's roof while her father and grandmother are present. Breana Mitchell played the character off as sweet and innocent but you could see there was an inner bad girl. I found her to be likable and very enjoyable to watch throughout the film. Her smile lit up the screen. Brittany the pregnant sister is very innocent and kind. She puts other people's feelings ahead of her own and she's very selfless. Brittany Dailey played the part very convincingly and had some very dramatic scenes throughout the film. Their brother Tony is kind of sassy, but a good guy. He's a very relatable character, especially for any same sex couples bringing their partner home for the first time. Tony Brown did a great job with this part. He was very convincing in the scenes where he was uncomfortable with his father meeting his boyfriend for the first time. He also had a very sassy wit about him, which added to the Charisma of the character. His chemistry with his boyfriend Jade played by Jade Michael Lafont was great to watch. It was nice to see the first openly gay couple in the Amityville franchise.
Not a lot of gore in this film, but there really wasn't any need for it. Most of the murders happened at the end of the film. However the build-up is just right and really delivers in the end. All that character development and story before the final massacre really made you care for what was happening to the characters in the end. I was literally on the edge of my seat hoping that they survived. Interesting enough, this story takes place around Christmas time and in the final scene it starts to snow. The film here has some decent performances from the cast and I'd argue that the director's do a nice job at keeping everything movie. A lot of times horror films like this just get to be downright slow and boring but that's really not the case here. It's well-made technically and it never gets boring. So, what is the problem with the film? Well, it lasts just 69-minutes with the ending credits.
