About this deal

Topical therapy. The doctor applies creams containing acids or chemicals to the bumps to induce peeling of the top layers of the skin. Topical therapy creams may contain iodine and salicylic acid, tretinoin, cantharidin (a blistering agent that a doctor usually applies), and imiquimod (T cell modifier) Molluscum contagiosum is caused by a poxvirus, the molluscum contagiosum virus. There are at least 4 viral subtypes.

Goodness that sounds awful lewimorgan1, your poor little girl. My 3 dc have it in differing severity. One of my DS has it very badly, although thankfully they are all on his body, none on his face. There must be close to 300. My other DS's torso is completely covered and my DD just has a small patch on her bottom. We've been using molludab for about 3 weeks now and on second bottle (as you get such a tiny amount). I think it is working as the spots are scabbing but it is not stopping the spreading of the virus so they are getting more spots but it is taking time for the old ones to scab and heal. Because molluscum contagiosum is self-limited in healthy individuals, treatment may be unnecessary. Nonetheless, issues such as lesion visibility, underlying atopic disease, and the desire to prevent transmission may prompt therapy. The inflammation indicates that your body is fighting the molluscum bumps. Now it is time to be patient and wait forthe bumps to heal. MolluDab mustnot be used on inflamed bumps.

Creams and lotions may be used. Currently, we don't know which is the best one, or even if some of them have any effect at all. Options used include:

In persons with congenital or acquired immune deficiency(e.g. HIV infection or treatment with medications which suppressthe immune system), since there is not sufficient experience withuse in this patient group. Secondary dermatitis may be treated symptomatically with a mild topical topical corticosteroid such as hydrocortisone cream. Dermatitis is unlikely to fully resolve until the molluscum infection has cleared up. Prevention of molluscum contagiosum infectionAbove all, don’t fret. In most cases, although they look unsightly, they do not indicate any particular health problem and treatments are available. There are no known interactions with medicinal products. However, as aprecaution, do not apply MolluDab on to the affected area at the sametime as other products. The lesions average 2mm to 5mm in size and are usually painless but may become itchy, inflamed, red and swollen. The papules are usually small, raised and usually white, pink or flesh-coloured with a central depression. When the core is expressed it produces a white, cheesy material. The patient does not usually experience systemic symptoms, such as fever, nausea, or malaise 1. MolluDab ® causes cells which are affected by the virus to dissolve and after 3-6 days of treatment 4 produces a defence reaction of the skin in the region affected by molluscum contagiosum. Cantharidin is the only FDA approved treatment of molluscum. It is a topical chemical treatment approved for use in adults and children ages 2 and older and must be administered by a health care professional. Podophyllotoxin cream (0.5%) is reliable as a home therapy for adults but is not recommended for pregnant women because of presumed toxicity to the fetus. Each lesion must be treated individually as the therapeutic effect is localized. Other options for topical therapy include iodine and salicylic acid, potassium hydroxide, tretinoin, and imiquimod (T cell modifier). Imiquimod has not been proven effective for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum in children and is not recommended for children due to possible adverse events. These treatments must be prescribed by a health care professional. Therapy for immunocompromised persons

Dab all molluscum bumps with the flatside of the spatula and allow the solutionto dry. After 3-5 bumps, you should wetthe spatula with MolluDab again. They can be treated medically by cryotherapy (freezing) or with creams that boost local immunity or suppress the virus. Topical treatments are available for use at home, both on prescription and to buy from pharmacies. To help prevent the spread of molluscum contagiosum…. Cryotherapy can bea very effective treatment for older children and adults, younger children rarely tolerate it. Often only a single freeze-thaw cycle of 5-10 seconds is needed People often think they’ve got genital warts when they see the firm, dome-shaped raised spots, which may be dimpled and can be as small as 1 millimetre or as large as half a centimetre, that are typical of MC. It’s an easy mistake to make and the reason why getting a correct diagnosis is important. The GP can do this, but many people still feel embarrassed about ‘problems down below’ so when this is the case visiting the local sexual health clinic, also known as the genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinic, is another good option.Widespread lesions can be found in patients with HIVand other forms of immunosuppression, as well with sarcoidosis MolluDab contains potassium hydroxide solution (caustic potash) andmay have a corrosive effect if used wrongly. In case of overdose or excessive frequent use, painfulinflammation of the skin may occur. Follow the directions carefully.

Stop using the product after 14 days, even if no inflammation has occurred. In this case, consult your doctor orpharmacist for further advice. If you’re pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding or chestfeeding, let your doctor know about your status before taking these medications or any others. For example, podophyllotoxin cream may be safe for people assigned male at birth, but people who are pregnant should avoid it, as its ingredients might be toxic to your fetus. Molluscum contagiosum mainly affects infants and young children under the age of 10 years. It is more prevalent in warm climates than cool ones, and in overcrowded environments. Adolescents and adults are less often infected.

Most cases areself-limitingwith resolution of lesions occurring over 6-9 months, although some cases may last for up to four years. Where possible the parents of such children should be encouraged to let the condition run its natural course If swallowed: Rinse mouth, drink plenty of water. Do not inducevomiting. Immediately call a doctor.
