About this deal

After hearing the tragic death of Joy, I have these parfum and EDT for months, today comes the time to compare them side by side. Jean Patou participated in the emergence of the iconic French "je ne sais quoi" movement that has left a lasting mark on French style. I mostly just care how things perform on me since I like a large variety, but don’t often find offensive notes, so glad to benefit from what some others have done, thanks! Joy is the only Patou perfume, as far as I know, and I've been a Patou fan for years, that it is not intended for a strong woman, maybe because it was designed until the brand revolt and until it starts creating just for for "revolutionary" women.

I would love to wear a single spritz of this in hot weather, wearing some palazzo pants to lunch, never taking off my sunglasses. Jean Patou died in his apartment of Georges V in 1936, at the age of 48, leaving the world with a spark as quick as was his life. In August 2018, LVMH purchased Patou and Dior, an LVMH brand, acquired the rights to the name "Joy".

Also, keep in mind, the first sprays out of a new bottle, and right after transit to boot, are often terrible. Obviously reformulated to meet IFRA rules, cut costs and/or because it is no longer a Patou fragrance. A huge floral bunch, an incredible garden of flowers, if anything the tuberose stood out most for me, not the rose; smells like the inside of a wedding marquee, blossoms n flowers n big waxy petals. Recently I bought a modern 30ml EdP to try it again and I’m afraid I’m still not the best audience for it.

Years ago I had a bottle of Joy body lotion, which I hoarded like the Rheingold for years and genuinely mourned when I used the last drop. Even after IFRA reformulation, Joy EDP is fine perfumery that projects at arm's length for approximately 5-6 hours and can live as a skin scent up to 24 hrs. LVMH could have kept the entire line of JP fragrances in production and show respect to a cult almost one century old.One of the main differences is the presence of aldehydes that really lifts the indolic jasmine cutting its banana jam note and enveloping the composition like a crisp cellophane wrapper. Of course, this has been probably reformulated a few odd times since then, and I did not have any illusions about this being the "most concentrated floral perfume of all time" anymore. Whereas the older versions were packaged wonderfully in Chinese style nesting boxes ultimately set into a dais. As an adult, Joy was swept aside as a memory to make room for the Poisons and their many flankers that have been mass marketed.

If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. In an attempt to create the most splendid perfume ever, Jean Patou doubled the quantities of ingredients required for Joy. The polarized experience reflects the characteristics of JOY itself - it has a dual character, or it is straight and rude, or it is beautiful and grand. Rich, photorealistic rose leads the way, initially slightly green and dewy, but unfurling to become a lush, sweet, powdery rose note.It was the favorite of many divas such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, María Félix and many others. Joy is a force of nature, it’s as if the Juliette of my dreams came crushing down on my world in a tornado of flowers swirling roses and tuberoses with each fearsome jasmine twist on every exhilarating ylang turn. There is luxurious and complex aroma in it that mesmerizes me and is a pure magic which one can never get enough of.

Celebrities of the time, such as Louise Brooks, Josephine Baker and Mistinguett, were all seen wearing his dresses. It quickly becomes a skin scent, so as soon as the little furry creature pops out the garden to say hello, it's gone again.Chanel №5 is a lot heavier and muscy and also smells kind of dated, where Joy smells totally wearable in modern times. This and Worth Je Revien were the beginning of my love affair with perfume thanks to my beautiful, strong, stylish, classy, feminine, fashion designer mommie who really belonged in the streets of Paris in an LBD and her kitten heels. But my mistake was that I didn't spray it on my skin, and just judged it too harshly by the smell of the bottle. It does settle down but the perfume, to my nose, is all Jasmine with another slightly sickly note of Ylang Ylang.
