About this deal

Written like a dairy, Haas F1 Team’s principal Guenther Steiner takes us on a trip through the 2022 Formula 1 season. I am not a biography type of guy, but being a Formula 1 fan since young age this was a must read for me. The dairy style writing makes it so that it doesn’t feel like a biography but rather feels like an inside view of a team principals mind. Written in Steiner’s voice the stylized ‘fok’ and ‘jeezos’ can become a little grating through the course of the year, but conversely it does add to the individualistic aura of the book and remind you this is Steiner and no one else.

Hülkenberg replaced Schumacher but the older German driver, who is now 35, has had a fractious relationship with Magnusson. Does Steiner enjoy seeing some needle between his drivers? “At the moment they get on pretty good but I always say teammates shouldn’t be friends because then the competition is going away. They need to compete to get the best out of the car for the team. The book is a rare example of an active F1 boss putting his thoughts into print, however forthright and uncomplimentary. Fearless and candid... A gleeful guide to a bonkers sport from a loveable rogue insider.' - The Times As fun as I see it is to make a inside DTS joke But honestly after the 5000 fok it just got annoying. Gernerally the "fun guentherism" words just got on my nerve. Voordat Steiner teambaas van Haas werd, werkte hij al jaren in de autosport. Hij werkte eerder bij o.a. Red Bull, en werkte met Niki Lauda samen bij Jaguar. De focus van Surviving to drive ligt echt op het afgelopen F1 seizoen bij Haas, en ondanks dat er wat persoonlijke notities voorbij komen, gaat het boek écht over F1. Soms – in wat mindere mate – vertelt Steiner ook over andere autoraces waarbij hij betrokken was.

But Steiner’s thoughts will now be available for fans to read in the new book, published by Transworld and due for release next April. This is amazing. Guenther has a hilarious sense of humour, and I found myself laughing throughout 😆 It's such an easy read and gives such an insight into a year in the life of f1 drivers and team principals. I did my job and people liked what I did ... the idea about the book (was) to follow up a little bit and also to explain to people in an entertaining way a year of what I’m doing," he explained. What sets this book apart from other F1 books is its unique format. Instead of the traditional biographies that we've seen before from technical directors and principals which span an entire career, Steiner chronicles the events and difficulties of the 2022 season. He shares the changes and challenges brought about by the lingering effects of the pandemic, as well as what it's like to be a team principal managing the impact of new FIA rules, the budget cap, and handling a Russian driver with Russian sponsors amidst the developing situation in Ukraine.

But Steiner was on the right side of history and clearly grasped the issues surrounding his Russian driver Nikita Mazepin and his team’s title sponsor Uralkali immediately after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Describing the decision to drop the main sponsor he says: “There was no debate. It had to happen for the good of Haas and the good of the sport.” Later he adds wryly: “Only Haas could have a Russian driver and a Russian sponsor at the start of a Russian war.”LONDON, April 20 (Reuters) - Haas boss Guenther Steiner has famously not watched the Netflix 'Drive to Survive' docu-series that made him a cult hero for a new wave of Formula One fans, but he has read every word of 'Surviving to Drive'. 😂

I came into this book only really knowing about Guenther and Haas from the Drive to Survive series, and I now come away after finishing it a bigger fan, not quite Connor McGregor level, but will definitely keep an eye out for them in future races. Already a pivot of the Netflix series, Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner now lets loose in his entertaining diary of 2022 Surviving to drive biedt een kijkje in de keuken van hoe je als teambaas moet opereren. Heel interessant voor alle F1 fans, ook als je nog niet zo fan bent van Haas. Steiner is een sympathieke kerel en ik moest regelmatig lachen om zijn ongefilterde blik op zaken. Steiner's no-nonsense approach, distinctive demeanor, and penchant for a profanity have earned him a legion of fans. As a positiv I really enjoyed the "side/ stories from the past". They gave an interesting insight into how you become an TP and how to work your way up the motorsport ladder.Surviving to Drive—a not-so-subtle linguistic twist on Drive to Survive—is the most anticipated Formula 1 book in some time. Guenther Steiner is one of motor racing's biggest and most celebrated characters, known to millions for his show-stealing appearances on Netflix's hugely popular fly on the wall series, Drive to Survive. Have the German media forgiven him for casting Schumacher aside – especially as he is the son of a legendary world champion? “I don’t need to be forgiven. I don’t feel guilty. I gave somebody a good chance so why should I feel I did wrong?” We have a bigger sponsor with Moneygram and we have got out of a tough place [after Covid] in 2020 pretty good. But, for sure, the drivers are part of it.” rounded up. I really enjoyed the behind the scenes look at Haas and learning more about both the history of the team and Guenther himself. Definitely reads like it should be spoken (bit cringey) and I’m not sure about the constant use of fok/foking (a joke taken too far?)
