Despite their superficial resemblance, the Draconimorpha are not particularly closely related to any other clade of modern reptiles. They are in fact, members of the Parareptilia, a subclass of Reptilia which also includes the now extinct Pareiasaurs among others, and are quite distinct from the more familiar Eureptilia, which includes the lepidosaurs (tuataras, lizards & snakes), archosaurs (crocodiles & birds) and the testudines (turtles and tortoises). Dragonology: The Complete Book of Dragons is a book on the science of 'Dragonology'. It was first published in 2003, and was re-published in 2006. It is written in a 19th Century style. This is because it is supposedly based on a rare book published in 1896. This book's front cover is red with European Dragon flying over a village inside a circle that is surrounded by another European Dragon. The supposed author of this book is "Dr. Ernest Drake".We do not know if he actually existed or not. He is supposed to be part of the "Secret and Ancient Society of Dragonologists" ( S.A.S.D.). It is an interactive folio book with lift up flaps and textures, and a variety of illustrators, mostly large colour illustrations by Helen Ward. As this is the first installment in the series, and new dragons are added in every book, the title 'complete book of dragons' is a bit of a nisnomer. They mainly eat small mammals, especially musk deer, which they constrict after hypnotising it with a peculiar mixture of a strange swaying dance and a call which starts of like a yodel and falls to a low drone. If its normal prey is not available it will eat fish then waterfowl. The book itself is a work of art. The cover reminds you of an ancient volume, perhaps owned by a wizard. It even has green jewels set in it. The inside is full of beautiful illustrations of all the different types of dragons. There are sealed envelopes which you can open to find letters from the author or even magical spells. There are "samples" of dragon scales and wings...This book really brings them to life. While the vast majority of the Parareptiles died out during the Great Dying (aka the Permian-Triassic mass extinction) 252 million years ago, the draconimorpha endured. Dragonology is a young adult book series about dragons, written in a non-fictional style. [1] The series contains information on dragons, including information about how to befriend and protect them as well as an alphabet of the dragon language, ancient runes, and replica samples of Dragon Scales. The series later expanded to include figures and models, a strategic board game, card game, and a video game for the Nintendo DS. Books in the series are credited to fictional authors such as Dr Ernest Drake, a member of the Secret and Ancient Society of Dragonologists, and the author of the series' first book, Dragonology: The Complete Book of Dragons. Dragonology: Hatch - collect diamonds, rubies, sapphires, amethyst and emeralds as you try to outwit opposing Dragonologists and befriend various types of dragons. Includes 53 cards, with 40 suited cards, 13 command cards, 6 dragon cards, 4 dragon egg cards, 3 tools, 4 key cards and instruction booklet, all stored in a round tin. For true believers only, a lavishly illustrated reproduction of a legendary volume by the world’s most distinguished dragonologist. Don’t let it fall into the wrong hands!

The largest drakes are big enough to maintain near-constant body temperatures via gigantothermy, and the best example of this is the enormous titan drake ( Dirosuchus maximus). Measuring 13-16m in length and weighing an impressive 7-9 tons, these marine reptiles are slightly larger than Tyrannosaurus rex, and are the largest members of the Draconimorpha and by extension, the largest extant reptiles.

While most wyrms are quite small, the giant ash wyrm ( Ophiosuchus cinereus) of South America is a notable exception. Growing to 5.5 - 6.5m in length, it is roughly as long as a large Nile or saltwater crocodile, but due to its slenderer build, isn’t as massive, weighing roughly 250-300kg, with both sexes being similar in size. Dragonology is the title of several books, a modeling kit, and a board game, among other things. The books were written by Doctor Ernest Drake, a Dragonologist (a scientist who studies dragons), and were written in the 1800s. The books are re-created for modern audiences by editor Dugald A Steer, with other contributors credited as Helen Ward ("Scientific Artist"), Douglas Carrel ("Chief Draughtsman"), Wayne Anderson ("Pictorial Artist"), and Nghiem Ta ("Artistic Direction").
