About this deal

The three attributes we rated in our testing were fit, feel, and clarity. We considered whether their glasses fit snugly and comfortably on their faces, noting when glasses slipped down, pressed too tightly against their heads, needed constant adjustment, or felt too large or small for their faces. (We also made stylistic notes here, too, when a pair seemed particularly on- or off-trend.) For feel, we evaluated how our eyes felt after hours of wear; if we noted short- or long-term improvement in eye strain symptoms over the course of the testing week, those glasses scored higher for feel than others that didn’t give us any noticeable improvement. Don’t worry—this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stop using your devices in the evening. While avoiding the use of digital devices a couple of hours before bed can help your sleep cycle, there’s also another option: sleep glasses. What are Sleep Glasses? ScreenTime Clear Lens - These filter 50% of blue light across all of the blue light spectrum (400nm-500nm), this will help eliminate digital eye strain, sore and tired eyes, headaches/migraines, and blurred vision from both screen time and bright LED or fluorescent lighting. Trying to look at your device on a bright, sunny day is kind of annoying. The blue-light-filtering lenses in Felix Gray’s sunglasses are designed to enhance color, making it easier to see your screen in vivid detail.

Unlike the optical lenses, Felix Gray’s sleep lenses have a brown tint to them. But it doesn’t affect your ability to see true color, and since you’re mostly just wearing them at home before bed anyway, the appearance of the lenses doesn’t matter that much. Sunglasses Each pair of frames is named after a scientist, logician, mathematician, or inventor of some sort or another, too, so if you're having trouble deciding, just follow suit with your greatest hero. Ironically, or maybe not, I went with the Alan Turing, whom Felix Gray defines as "the godfather of modern computer science." Any new pair of glasses will need a short adjustment period, but ideally, you should start being able to put your glasses on and forget they’re even there after a few days of regular use. If this isn't the case, call your doctor for advice. To have melatonin produced at the right time to help you go to sleep, you should get some sun time early in the morning. Ideally, spend around 15 minutes outside when the sun is first up, which will reset your circadian rhythm. It turns out that, according to the New York Times, they're probably not wrong. While I was (and still am) dubious about the brand's claim that its sleep lenses are "clinically proven to increase melatonin secretion," I do have the feeling that they're performing no small amount of damage control. That’s not all. The optical lenses have an anti-reflective coating and boast 100 percent UVA/UVB protection. What’s more, they’re totally clear. You won’t notice any weird blue cast on the lenses like can happen with some blue light glasses. Sleep lenses Do you find yourself regularly laying in bed staring at the ceiling, wide awake, wondering “why can’t I sleep”? If so, we just may have a solution for you.

They’re not crazy expensive. “Expensive” is a totally relative term, of course. But When it comes down to it, the prices for Felix Gray glasses aren’t all that much different than glasses from other direct-to-consumer brands. These glasses are also comfortable, with a lightweight and wide-frame fit that didn’t dig into the sides of the head during our testing. We noted a slight distortion around the edges of the lenses, but it was only noticeable when we weren’t looking at a screen. Overall, these are probably not the best glasses for work or socializing, but we think they are a “solid, no-frills choice” for anyone who spends hours laser-focused on a screen and needs major glare protection and brightness reduction (for instance, as the category suggests, gamers). Before the advent of electricity, humans slept and woke according to the timing of the sunrise and sunset. Sunlight is composed of a wide range of light wavelengths, including the entire visible spectrum from red to violet as well as ultraviolet (UV) and infrared wavelengths. However, blue light in the range of 446 to 477 nm has the most significant impact on the sleep-wake cycle. Sleep is an essential function that allows your body to rest, repair, and rejuvenate. Adults need at least seven hours of high-quality sleep per night to feel and function their best. If you’ve been finding it difficult to fall asleep at night and have a habit of using your digital devices before bed, blue light could be to blame. So be sure to look for the exact specifications of blue light filtering when getting daytime glasses. All of GUNNAR’s prescription glasses are available in Amber Max (GBLF 98). You can view all of GUNNAR’s prescription glasses here, but let’s take a closer look at a few popular choices: Berkeley Prescription Sleep Glasses

Felix Gray offers a wide range of frames for blue light glasses. Each of the brand’s 17 adult-friendly styles are designated as narrow, medium, and/or wide, so you can make a selection based on what will fit most comfortably. Four of the frames are designed for “low bridge” noses that sit below the pupils. You can choose between clear or amber lenses depending on your personal preference, and most of the frames are available in at least two to three different colors. Of course, the blue light lenses are the real stars here. And the brand has a few different types, depending on what you need. Optical lenses For most of us, our body creates the perfect amount of natural melatonin. There is no supplement that can replicate this source. If we take store bought melatonin, we are modifying the optimal amount our body requires. While short term usage is generally considered safe, there is question about long term safety. In addition Heart and liver may not yet be on the menu at the Etihad but Erling Haaland mania at Manchester City now includes his eyewear. If you’re considering a pair of blue light glasses, you may want to make sure the lenses also include an anti-glare or anti-reflective coating—otherwise, you may find your headaches or digital eye strain continues to persist. You may notice a subtle headache in the first few days of wearing new prescription glasses, but it shouldn’t persist or be severe. If you continue having headaches, notice your vision looks blurry, or feel unsteady (like you have vertigo) when wearing your glasses, something may be wrong with your prescription. Designed just for migraine relief, these glasses reduce the intensity, duration, and frequency of migraine headaches for 9/10 people. I happened to meet Erling in Norway six years ago," Maruca told the Manchester Evening News. "He was 17, it was in 2018 so five years ago in Molde.

Berkeley offers a lightweight, yet durable frame that can be worn comfortably for hours. These classic-style wide frames offer supreme visual clarity and blue light protection, allowing you to use your devices during the evening. Torpedo-X Razer Edition Prescription We do not recommend using the night-time glasses during the day as this will create a circadian mismatch and will actually cause issues with sleep later in the evening. Using night-time glasses during the day with be very harmful and will actually be detrimental to your health. Let me give you a bit more detail as to why: DayMax Yellow Lens - These filter 70% of blue light across all of the blue light spectrum (400nm-500nm), these provide maximum daytime protection and are prefect for people who are light sensitive or are on screens most of the day or under harsh artificial lighting all day. Felix Gray Turing Glasses at Madewell.com: We thought these glasses were cute and stylish, along with providing a clear line of sight, but they were so small and tight-fitting they were painful to wear. Blue light is a type of light emitted by cell phones, computers, and televisions—in other words, the same devices most of us spend huge parts of our day using. “Blue light glasses are glasses with special coatings designed to eliminate the short wavelength of blue light,” says Brian Lojka, OD, an optometrist at Clarkson Eyecare and medical officer of optometry for EyeCare Partners. “These can be lenses with prescription or without… [and] people who feel stress or strain upon their vision after looking at computer or phone screens might want to wear them.”The company offers over 300 blue light glasses from brands like Ray-Ban, Amelia E., Ottoto, and Muse. A user-friendly filter allows you to choose from nearly a dozen frame shapes, as well as frame materials such as acetate, metal, plastic, and stainless steel, and frame features like adjustable nose pads and spring hinges. You can also search by lens features such as Rx Single Vision or Rx Bifocal. The variety of options helps ensure that you’ll find the most comfortable glasses possible to suit your needs and face shape. According to the Harvard Medical School, green light can help elicit non-visual responses to light, including resetting circadian rhythms, melatonin production, and alerting the brain. If there’s one point we make the most on this blog, it’s that digital screens can cause digital eye strain. Another point we frequently bring up is that artificial blue light can disrupt your sleep cycle. Being such a prevalent problem in today’s modern age, this latter point deserves more emphasis. Felix Gray puts forth that its "lenses target the range of blue light that impacts melatonin secretion (440-500 nm wavelengths) to improve the quality of your sleep." I was still listening.
